Orphaned Page

This page looks useful. It was created by Dave himself. Can someone find a good place to link it back. Also, please take care not to change the meaning of the paragraphs. -- Grexx 20:12, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

LOL! I was linking it from the Main Page as you were typing this. :-) -- B.Rossow talkcontr 20:13, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Whoa! Hunter's title has an effect? I didn't know that had been officially stated; that was previously just speculation!--Kirbix 20:48, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Clarification needed?

I was just sharing this page with a new hunter, and I noticed something that made me scratch my head a bit, which is a fogginess regarding the role bait plays in encountering mice. Under the "Encounter" step, it says that bait plays a small role in which type of mice are encountered (and it specifically mentions that Maki boosts the encounter rate for Students), but then under the "Attraction" step, it says, "bait has very little effect on the type of mouse you encounter."

I understand that these two statements are not mutually exclusive, but I wonder if the "Encounter" section shouldn't be reworded a bit? As it stands, it seems (to me, at least) to imply that bait is a bigger factor than it really is, when in fact bait affecting encounters is the exception, not the rule. Just changing "Secondly" to "In a few rare cases" would clear up a lot of confusion, IMHO. --GoBecky 14:33, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

New Hunting Sequence

I was reading this thread today; there's a new sequence proposed by Paul which actually makes sense in terms of how things work now, and stuff. I'm too tired right now, but I'd like to see if we can rewrite this article. Yes, it was written by a dev originally, but it really is out of date in terms of how game works now. Maybe we can like link to an older revision at the bottom for people interested in what devs had to say, how it used to work in MH 2. -- camomiletea 07:03, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
-- I thought the edits I made to this page a few months ago updated it, and are consistent with what Paul wrote in that thread... -- aaronmil 01:52, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

I made some tweaks. In particular, my confusion arose from the fact that the section saying the population of mice depends on cheese/location was still above the section on attraction, when the order is now switched (you attract something, then find out what it was that you attracted). Secondly if attraction and encounter is the same thing now, then wording like "attracted the mouse that you encountered" make no sense. -- camomiletea 05:44, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Hmm. I actually feel that this makes less explicit that your cheese and location constraints the population. I mean, the decision of "which mouse did I attract" does happen both before and after the "attraction" step, when you think about it. At the moment that you move to a location and arm a cheese, already the population of mice you can encounter is set. Then you hunt, and whether or not you attract a mouse is determined. Finally, which specific mouse you attracted is determined. So it's actually at both steps! lol aaronmil 18:08, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Bringing friends on hunts

How sure are we that hunters are limited to bringing 8 friends with them on a hunt? From what I can tell, that number came from a post Michele made on the forums sometime last year. However, I just happened to be looking at the Invite Friends page, which states "Each time you sound your hunters horn you can take up to 10 friends with you. You earn bonus points for leading those friends." From looking at this the number of friends would appear to be 10, not 8, but seeing as both of these conflicting numbers could be considered statements from the devs I thought it would be best to discuss here before making any changes. —MearsMan talk 08:13, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

I haven't seen that page before. Is it new? There has been a limit of getting 250 points for sounding the horn for a long time, which is consistent with taking 8 friends on a hunt--this limit was there before I saw Michele's comment, I just thought the limit was on the number of points even though you could take more than 8 friends on a hunt. Sorry, not much help. -- camomiletea 15:32, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
