There are seven known regions and twenty five permanent locations between them. An additional location, Ronza's Traveling Shoppe, appears from time to time and is not tied to any one region. A King's Stockade location was discovered on 25 April 2009, where banned players go.

The King of Gnawnia has called brave mouse hunters to his kingdom to fight the mice that are destroying his lands. It is he that pays rewards to hunters. He also has the power to increase the title of a hunter. The King's name is currently a mystery, although speculation exists that his name has been determined by MouseHunt developers. A contest held in the Summer of 2008 garnered hundreds of guesses from players. When the contest ended, it was revealed by the developers that the King's name had not yet been correctly guessed.

The King knows how bad the mouse problem is in Gnawnia from personal experience. On 10 September 2008, the King's Crown was stolen by a Master Burglar Mouse. The Master Burglar Mouse was later caught by a hunter, Amy White, resulting in the greatest single prize awarded in MouseHunt to date.

rtoc
Traps consist of one weapon plus one base.

Along with cheese, traps are absolutely essential for catching mice. (In fact, unlike cheese that can run out, it is impossible not to have a trap.) The term trap is sometimes used interchangeably with weapon, although in the strictest sense that is not correct.

The weapon is the part of the trap that does the actual catching of the mice and is arguably the much more important part of the trap as it contributes the majority of the power to the setup. The base is the part upon which the trap rests and which holds the cheese. Each part of the trap, weapon and base, has its own characteristics (described below) that will affect a hunter's success when used in certain areas, against certain mice, and so on, and it is not always the most powerful combination that is most appropriate in every situation. All factors must be taken into consideration to design a trap that meets the individual hunter's goals.

Traps are available at all Trapsmiths and occasionally at Ronza's Traveling Shoppe. Every new hunter is given a choice between one of two weapons (Tacky Glue Trap or High Tension Spring) plus a Wooden Base. As hunters capture more mice and get more gold and experience, they can (and should) upgrade their traps with better components to increase their success in catching more powerful mice.

Trap Attributes
A list of the various attributes that a trap has.
Component stats
*Power
:The overall strength of the component. Traps with higher power are more likely to catch mice.
*Power Type
:Mice have specific weaknesses to certain Power Types. Using the appropriate weapon in the appropriate area is a critical part of any hunter’s strategy.
*Power Bonus
:The power bonus of both weapon and base are added together and then applied to the total power of the trap, increasing its power.
*Attraction Bonus
:The attraction bonus boosts the attraction power of the bait being used increasing the odds of a mouse approaching a hunter’s trap.
*Luck
:Some components are designed to offer small chances of catching a mouse regardless of the mouse’s strength. It is not uncommon for lucky traps to grant hunters the ability to catch mice that seem far too powerful for their trap.
*Cheese Effect
:Any time a mouse is not attracted to a trap during a hunt there is a chance for the cheese to turn stale. Some components are built using harmful chemicals that increase the odds of spoiling bait. Traps with a fresh cheese effect help reduce the likelihood of cheese turning stale.
:1 The listed costs of these crafted weapons are based on the minimum prices of the necessary crafting ingredients; they may cost more depending on where the ingredients are purchased and how much the hunter spends on cheese to catch the mice that drop some of the items.
:2 These weapons were available for sale at Ronza's Traveling Shoppe for a limited time only and are not currently available for purchase.
:3 The prices of these weapons differ between the Gnawnia and Burroughs trapsmiths; they cost 5% less at the latter.
:4 This weapon was available as loot from a Fancy Birthday Gift given on 7 March 2009 and from Ronza's Traveling Shoppe starting on 9 March 2009.
:5 The PartyBot is only available through crafting using a Party Hat which was available as loot from a Birthday Gift given on 7 March 2009 and from Ronza's Traveling Shoppe starting on 9 March 2009. The cost listed is dependent on where the Mouse DeathBot needed to craft the weapon was purchased.

Refunds
All weapons and bases that were bought from a Trapsmith can be refunded for 18% of the vendor price. A hunter can refund a trap component only if the Trapsmith at the location you are at also sells it. Therefore, crafted traps can never be refunded.

This is a general overview of MouseHunt myths and rumors, solely intended to help confused new players, and will constantly be updated as more appear on the Discussion Board.

rtoc

There are many harmless jokes posted on the Discussion Boards by bored and mischievous players. Here are lists of current common myths:

Flawed strategies
*Purchasing a large amount of cheese to keep gold 'safe'
:Having zero gold does not 'block' a hunter from a mouse stealing their gold. The mouse will instead steal a quantity of their cheese equal to the value of gold that the mouse would have taken. The quantity of cheese is also rounded up, meaning: if a mouse was to steal 201 gold and a hunter had brie baited the mouse would instead steal 2 pieces of brie which is the equivalent of 400 gold. It becomes obvious that this hurts the hunter more than it helps them.

*Changing traps/bases will increase the chance of catching different kinds of mice; it "changes things up and resets your luck."
:This is a very widely used strategy. Hunters all over MouseHunt have been trying this since the game's inception. The example is classic- if you have an unlucky streak (lots of red boxes or misses) and switch traps, your unlucky streak will end and you will catch a large amount of mice next. Dave Vanderburg (a developer of the game, we may remind you) himself has said that this has no bearing on your luck. The fact that it has seemingly helped people is, like anything else in this game, a completely random variation. As a matter of fact, switching to a weaker base or trap (such as swapping out a NVMRC Forcefield Trap for a Swiss Army Mouse Trap while hunting in the Laboratory) will significantly decrease your ability to catch mice.

*A location swap will help to increase odds of catching mice; it changes your D.H.U. factor
:Also a widely used strategy along with swapping traps/ bases. Some hunters believe that if he/ she is having bad luck in e.g. the laboratory, moving to the Town of Gnawnia then coming back will help to increase their luck there. There is no such thing; any improvements in hunting are totally based on luck. In fact more gold is wasted on travelling, thus hurting the hunter.

*Trap/Base setup has an effect on which mice you attract
:No trap or base will ever increase or decrease your chance to attract a specific mouse. E.g. "I caught my Shelder Mouse with a Net Cannon, therefore this is obviously the best setup to get him." Yes, the trap/base setup may help catch the mouse, but it will in no way guarantee that the mouse will visit your trap. Another example of this is when hunters think that a Shadow type trap attracts Shadow type mice. This is a clear misconception; the use of Radioactive Blue in the Mousoleum or Gnarled Cheese in the Lagoon is the only way to attract the shadow mice in those locations.

Traps and Bases
* Any Salt Mine-related cheese or traps, e.g. Salt "Extractor" or the "Salty Droid"
* Bulgarian Bread Feast Trap
:The official Brotherhood of Tudor MouseHunt group definiton is:
::It is effectively just a huge hunk of Whole-grain soaked in Kitten Soup. The only mice that can escape from this mouthwatering fiesta of flavours are those that are 'as quick as snot on a door knob'.
::The chances of catching a mouse with this trap are 3v1 one million vs 1.
* Diamond Atomizing Portal Trap
:A description of this trap is as follows:
::"A top-secret advancement on the now-redundant earlier portals, this trap atomizes any unsuspecting mouse to set foot into its shimmering jaws. Developed by Burroughs' scientists to combat the wave of rapidly-evolving mutants spreading from the Mousoleum, this trap remains in the early stages of testing and is reported to be highly volatile and unstable. Mousehunters should use only at their own risk."
::This trap is created when a hunter arms a Sticky Glue Trap with Moon cheese and catches 3 Diamond Mice.
* Diarrhea Bottomizing Portal Trap
:The official description of this trap created by Pooflinger is as follows:
::Power: 10
::Power Type: Shadow
::Accuracy Bonus: -25% (negative accuracy bonus)
::Luck: 50%
::Cheese Effect: Extremely negative
::"An eastern scientist has applied Yin/Yang philosophy into a new weak but effective trap. The entrance is not properly sealed but the virus inside could make the mice exhausted forever in this toilet-equipped trap."
* Hot Tub (Base)
:Creates a sense of ambiance that draws the mouse in for a calming swim which soon turns into a boiling pool of burning doom
* Diving Board (Trap)
:Created for use with the Hot Tub base the diving board trap uses pressure plates on the surface of the diving board to activate what the creators of this trap called the hydraulic hinge, folding the board from front to back upon itself crushing the mouse.
* Fall Base
:Fall describes two things on this trap, its design and its camouflage, designed to have the appearance of a forest floor scattered with leaves the fall base blends perfectly with its surroundings. Stepping on this false ground will cause you to plunge into a pool of liquid nitrogen instantly freezing the mouse.
* Armor Plated ULTIMATUM or A.P.U.
:A mish-mash of many traps, blended together to make the strongest trap ever devised yet. With an Accuracy rating of 300%, and Cheese Effect off the chart positive, this trap will catch just about any mouse, be it physical or undead. While it has not been tested against the battle-trained mice to this point, it is expected to do very well. (Catacombs)
* Not A Fat Guy's Mouth Trap
:Another creation of Lobster Mouse's creator, the "Not A Fat Guy's Mouth Trap" is a staircase that goes through a doorway that promises "Definitely not to be a fat guy's mouth". But through this doorway leads a staircase that actually does go up to a fat guy's mouth, which will eat the betrayed and saddened mouse. The fat guy in the picture is said to be based off it's creator's uncle.
* Radioactive Base
:Many versions and crafting formulas exist, but this popular base concept is regrettably still a myth. Most recipies involve around 20 or so Radioactive Sludge and several Scrap Metal (Splintered Wood being too weak to contain the base's raw materials), along with varied other materials. It was first brought up before Radioactive Sludge had a use, and many players still hope for its inclusion. It commonly has a high basic power and power type, but often has a low attraction bonus. The Radioactive Base obviously has a high Stale effect.
* Salty Droid
:Created by crafting 1,000 salt and Deathbot Parts, this trap is supposedly a method of gaining alternate entrance to the Salt Mines (only works if Ronza is in the Salt Mines)
::This thread was actually created by a player christened 'Salty' in response to a "When Is Ronza Coming" Thread. When the OP actually attempted to craft it, salty refunded him in gold (with an extra 100 SB) And a ticker message appeared warning players that they could be banned if they posted misleading information on the forums.

Map Pieces
* Shredded Wheat Map piece, supposedly leading to the Elysian Fields
* Salt Mines Work Permit, opens Salt Mines map location, supposedly dropped by Kamikaze mice in the Training Grounds
* Babylon Boat Pass, opens the Hanging Gardens, said to be dropped by a Pirate Mouse in the Training Grounds or a Gold Mouse in the Salt Mines.
* Ancient Book, dropped by Sensei mice, unlocks Xanadu
* Riddle of the Catacombs, unlocks the Catacombs if you can solve the riddle
* Secret Knock Of The Pagoda, a myth started before the pagoda was released as a real area; a samurai supposedly dropped a slip of parchment with the secret knock written on it. The secret knock comprised exactly 26 knocks.

Others
* Dark Moon Cheese and Dark Moon Cheese potions (Selenelion Potions).
* Green Tea Cheese from the Pagoda, supposedly help attract Kamikaze mice
* Lerxst, Dirk, and Pratt, three kings who give random rewards to worthy hunters in Xanadu.

Listed below are the sequence of events that occur during a hunt with some explanation about how a hunter can prepare to maximize their chances in each step.

The hunt is started
There are a few ways a hunt can be started, most commonly by the Hunter's Horn. A hunter can start an immediate hunt by sounding the horn themselves, or if a friend is hunting in the same location and sounds their horn it will automatically sound the horn of any friend who is also ready to hunt. The second way a hunt can be started is by a trap check. These trap checks happen at each hour throughout the day. A hunter must have their trap baited and also have been active within 24 hours in order to have a receive trap checks. Once a player leaves the game for 24 hours they will stop receiving trap checks.

A mouse is encountered
Once a hunt is started, a hunter will then encounter a specific breed of mouse. The most significant factor affecting what breed of mouse they encounter is the location they are hunting in. Secondly, the type of bait a hunter is using can have a small effect on what type of mouse they encounter. For example, the scent of Brie and SUPER|brie+ can draw Burglar Mice in the area a little closer to a hunter's trap, and Maki boosts the encounter rate for student mice in the Dojo by a rather large margin.

The encountered mouse is or isn't attracted to the bait
Once a mouse comes around a hunter's trap, it is then up to the specific bait the hunter is using to attract that specific type of mouse. Carefully read the descriptions of the various bait in the game to give hints about how effective they are at attracting certain types of mice, and in what areas of the game. It is important to make the distinction that bait has very little effect on the type of mouse you encounter and it has absolutely no effect on if you catch a mouse or not. The main job of a hunter's bait is to attract the mouse to their trap after it has been encountered. It is also worth noting that traps that have an attraction bonus will boost the chances of attracting more and different breeds of mice.

Should you fail to attract the mouse you encountered then your bait has a chance of going stale based on your trap's cheese effect. The time you purchased your bait has no effect on whether your cheese turns stale. A stale trap setup typically consists of a weapon and base with a stale cheese effect. Oftentimes, the trap setup used is an Obelisk of Incineration or Arcane Capturing Rod Of Never Yielding Mystery paired with the Explosive Base because this setup gives the lowest cheese effect currently possible.

Hunters with the rank of Apprentice or above can collect stale cheese, which depends on what kind of cheese was used as bait. When cheese crafted with Magic Essence goes stale, with the exception of Ancient cheese, it turns into Stale SUPER|brie+. Meanwhile, Radioactive Blue cheese turns into Radioactive Sludge while all other kinds of cheese that cannot be classified in the previously mentioned categories turn into basic stale cheese. These seemingly useless stale cheese can be used to craft different varieties of cheese that may prove useful to hunters and is often a requirement for successful hunting in the Bristle Woods region.

Your trap versus the mouse
Should a hunter successfully attract the type of mouse they encountered, it is now up to the statistics of their trap to determine if they catch the mouse or not. A more powerful trap has a better chance to trap a more powerful mouse, although the probability to catch a mouse is never 100% (so even a puny White Mouse has a small chance to get away from the immensely powerful RhinoBot) *Editor's Note- someone help me assign the RhinoBot link to the name itself,I'm not sure how, thanks!*. Aside from power, a trap's luck rating also provides a chance to catch a mouse purely from luck. It is not uncommon for lucky traps to catch mice that are more powerful than the trap.

The hunter's title/level also plays a small role in their ability to catch a mouse. As players progress upwards through the hunter's ranks, their traps stats are boosted slightly providing an extra edge.

Weapons not only have power, but also a specific power type. Some mice are susceptible to certain power types, while others are resistant if not completely immune. A popular example is in the Mousoleum where the vast majority of mice are vulnerable to shadow traps while being resistant to other types of traps such as physical traps.

The outcome of the hunt
The outcome of the hunt is fairly straightforward. Should you catch the mouse you will be awarded points and gold based on the type of mouse you caught as well as its weight. Heavier mice are considered to be weaker than the smaller, quicker mice and are therefore worth fewer points, but more gold.

Should you attract (but fail to catch) the mouse, your adversary will always consume the one piece of cheese your trap was baited with. In some hunting locations, it is also possible for mice to steal additional pieces of cheese, as well as points or gold.
