Hunting tips by Larry
I welcome you to Elub Shore, although the mice of the Elub Tribe do not appear to share my sense of hospitality!

The mice of the Elub Tribe treasure wisdom and knowledge over strength and power. There is much to learn by hunting these wise mice. I am sure you'll find it an excellent place to expand your hunting knowledge and move up in the ranks of MouseHunting! To be successful here you will need either Gouda or SUPER|brie+ cheese and a Hydro weapon. You'll find that members of the Elub Tribe are resistant to all power types other than Hydro. If you lack a Hydro weapon return to the S.S. Huntington II where you can purchase the Harpoon Gun or Net Cannon. The General Store back in Cape Clawed also carries a blueprint for a very powerful Hydro trap.

You will no doubt quickly notice the mice here carrying Seashells. Mice of the Elub Tribe enjoy the salt deposits found in the shells here and actually grind up the shells to make an oddly shaped cheese called Shell Cheese. Should you manage to craft some be sure you are well prepared as I suspect the most skilled mice in the tribe, including their leader, the Chieftain will quickly attack your trap.

Oh, and one more thing. Do you mind turning down the volume on that Hunter's Horn? I am going to find a comfy spot on the beach to relax!
Hunting tips from Larry
I can barely see you over the tall grass! The terrain here makes it quite easy to hide, something I think the mice of the Nerg Tribe take full advantage of! Watch your back, it's not uncommon for the Nerg to spring an ambush and pillage your supplies of cheese!

Members of the Nerg Tribe mostly keep to themselves, but are very territorial. They do not hesitate to attack enemy tribes or hunters the moment they step foot on their corner of the island. To be successful hunting here you will need either Gouda or SUPER|brie+ as bait, along with a strong Tactical weapon. You'll find the mice of Nerg Plains to be resistant to any power type other than Tactical.

It seems the Nerg have an outside interest in farming. It is not uncommon to find them carrying some unique Savory Vegetables. They combine these vegetables with Curds and Whey over heat to make a gooey mess that cools into what they called Gumbo Cheese. I do not recommend trying any yourself as most humans have a hard time considering it even remotely edible. Using Gumbo cheese as bait will no doubt attract the leaders of the Nerg. Be well prepared for their arrival as they are the most territorial of all!

Now MouseHunter, bait your trap, lay low in the tall grass and keep your nose keen to the distinct scent of Savory Vegetables!
Hunting tips from Larry
Great Scott, what in King's name are we doing here?! Are you mad, MouseHunter? Members of the Derr tribe are ruthless, power-hungry war mongers! The reputation of the Derr Tribe is known across the Island. They topple even the most powerful of traps with ease, crippling hunters' courage and pillaging their gold! Hunting here is not for the faint of heart, but capturing a member of the Derr tribe does come with a handsome reward of gold!

If you insist on hunting the dangerous Derr Tribe you will need a powerful Physical Trap. If you are familiar with the Burroughs Region, perhaps you have discovered the secret research facility called Digby. The Trapsmith in Digby sells the powerful Digby DrillBot, known throughout Gnawnia as a vital component in a strong Physical trap setup.

The mice of Derr trust no one, a trait that has made them very suspicious and hard to trick into a trap. You'll find Gouda is quite capable of attracting a member of Derr towards a trap, but SUPER|brie+ is even more effective! The magical sparkle of SUPER|brie+ prevent mice from stealing more than a single piece at a time, a property that comes in especially handy here in the Derr Dunes as the mice here tend to steal cheese in large quantities.

You're on your own now, MouseHunter. This heavy suit of armour proves to be quite cumbersome when trying to navigate the rocky terrain here. Best of luck!

History and Trivia
The names of three locations in the Tribal Isles are roughly the colours backwards. Derr Dunes takes its name after the colour 'red', and the Derr tribe mice wear red clothes.

The Marketplace is a feature in the game that enables players to buy and sell Keys to the Town of Digby, Maps to the Laboratory, and SUPER|brie+. Unlike the Cheese Shoppe or Trapsmith, the Marketplace is a peer-populated feature, meaning that those players looking to buy certain items will only be able to find those items that other players have put up for sale.

For MouseHunt 1.0, this feature can be found in the shops tab of the game. However, since the switchover to the new MouseHunt 2.0 interface, the Marketplace is currently unavailable to players. The Marketplace in the original MouseHunt interface was the subject of numerous complaints regarding unavailability of goods and difficulty of trading. The developers are currently reprogramming the Marketplace in order to alleviate these complaints.
TheBrinkhttps://mhwiki.hitgrab.com/wiki/index.php?title=Traps&diff=85272Traps2009-08-21T20:32:26Z
TheBrink: I just fixed a split infinitive.

rtoc
Traps consist of one weapon plus one base.

Along with cheese, traps are absolutely essential for catching mice. (In fact, unlike cheese that can run out, it is impossible not to have a trap.) The term trap is sometimes used interchangeably with weapon, although in the strictest sense that is not correct.

The weapon is the part of the trap that does the actual catching of the mice and is arguably the much more important part of the trap as it contributes the majority of the power to the setup. The base is the part upon which the trap rests and which holds the cheese. Each part of the trap, weapon and base, has its own characteristics (described below) that will affect a hunter's success when used in certain areas, against certain mice, and so on, and it is not always the most powerful combination that is most appropriate in every situation. All factors must be taken into consideration to design a trap that meets the individual hunter's goals.

Traps are available at all Trapsmiths and occasionally at Ronza's Traveling Shoppe. Every beginning hunter is given a choice between one of two weapons (Tacky Glue Trap or High Tension Spring) plus a Wooden Base. As hunters capture more mice and get more gold and experience, they can (and should) upgrade their traps with better components to increase their success in catching more powerful mice.

Trap Attributes
A list of the various attributes that a trap has.
Component stats
*Power
:The overall strength of the component. Traps with higher power are more likely to catch mice.
*Power Type (see below)
:Mice have specific weaknesses to certain Power Types. Using the appropriate weapon in the appropriate area is a critical part of any hunter’s strategy.
*Power Bonus
:The power bonus of both weapon and base are added together and then applied to the total power of the trap, increasing its power.
*Attraction Bonus
:The attraction bonus boosts the attraction power of the bait being used increasing the odds of a mouse approaching a hunter’s trap.
*Luck
:Some components are designed to offer small chances of catching a mouse regardless of the mouse’s strength. It is not uncommon for lucky traps to grant hunters the ability to catch mice that seem far too powerful for their trap.
*Cheese Effect
:Any time a mouse is not attracted to a trap during a hunt there is a chance for the cheese to turn stale. Some components are built using harmful chemicals that increase the odds of spoiling bait. Traps with a fresh cheese effect help reduce the likelihood of cheese turning stale.

Power Types
Traps with different power types vary in effectiveness against different power types of mice.

*Arcane
:Traps utilizing arcane damage come from sources shrouded in mystery. The strength of arcane damage increases proportionally against forgotten mice, making the traps especially effective in the Bristle Woods.
*Forgotten
:Long before the castle was built, the lands of Gnawnia were quite a different place littered with hunting strategies that have not been spoken of since. Mice that utilize these long-forgotten tactics are amongst the most difficult to catch.
*Hydro
:Effective against mice who dwell in and around water. Hydro traps are designed to capture a mouse even if they are lurking deep below the water's surface.
*Physical
:The most straightforward type of damage a trap weapon can inflict. It is effective against a variety of mice.
*Shadow
:Shadow is a magical type of damage that is very effective against ghostly breeds of mice.
*Tactical
:Built upon research of battle strategy, these traps are especially strong against mice trained in the art of war.

Refunds
The Hunter has a difficult decision about what trap to use when facing Shadow mice. Shadow mice are often found in the Mousoleum where the hunter has several options.

The Sinister is more powerful but has less attraction and a negative cheese effect. The Ambrosial has less power but higher attraction and a lower chance of spoiling your cheese.
Closer Examination
The hunter will gain between 53-67 power by using the Sinister Portal depending on the base. Is that worth the 5% drop in attraction along with the 2-level drop in cheese freshness?

Well, what is the hunter looking for? The Sinister Portal will catch the mouse a little bit more often, while the Ambrosial Portal will give a greater chance of attracting mice, along with making sure cheese doesn't go stale. The Ambrosial Portal will give the hunter more chances to catch mice, but the Sinister Portal will give the best chance to catch the mouse once it is attracted. The hunter's choice of which trap to use may be impacted by if they are going after the less common mice like the Black Widow, Monster or Vampire.

Radioactive Blue cheese provides a high level of attraction in the Mousoleum which is an argument for the Sinister Portal since the hunter doesn't need the attraction bonus of the Ambrosial Portal if they have a cheese with a high attraction rate. However Radioactive Blue cheese is a crafted cheese that is expensive to make which is an argument for the Ambrosial Portal since the hunter will lose less cheese to the Stale Cheese effect.

Portals are typically used in the Mousoleum, where encounters are frequent, but captures are unfortunately not. That little boost in power could make a difference.
Stale Cheese is the by-product of baited cheese going stale from a trap's cheese effect. Depending on the type of baited cheese, one of 3 types of stale cheese will be created. Only hunters with the title of Apprentice and above will be able to collect stale cheese.

Stale cheese is automatically added to your crafting inventory.

Stale Cheese
Dried up morsels of cheese are often the result of traps made with harmful chemicals.

Standard Stale Cheese is created when most types of cheese becomes stale. They are listed as follows:
:* Standard cheese: Cheddar, Marble, Swiss, and Brie.
:* Special cheese: Gnarled
:* Crafted cheese: Ancient, Combat, Glutter, Rumble, Susheese, and White Cheddar.

Usage: It is used in the crafting of Ancient and Runic cheese.

;History and Trivia
:For a short period of time it was dropped by Scavenger mice in the Catacombs.

Stale SUPER|brie+
The sight of this item often draws a tear or two from even the most steadfast MouseHunter. The magic of this item seems to be empowered by its almost paradoxical existence.

Stale SUPER|brie+ is created when cheese that have Magic Essence as one of the ingredients turns stale, with the exception of Ancient cheese. They are listed as follows:
:* Maki, Moon, Runic, and SUPER|brie+.

Usage: There is currently no known use for Stale SUPER|brie+.

Radioactive Sludge
This toxic waste is the result of radioactive blue cheese turning stale.

Radioactive Sludge is created when Radioactive Blue cheese goes stale.

Usage: There is currently no known use for Radioactive Sludge.

Gathering Stale Cheese
Since stale cheese is used in Ancient and Runic cheese, hunters may find themselves needing more. In order for cheese to become stale, a few conditions are required:
*The cheese must not attract a mouse (not catching is not enough - cheese stolen by a mouse, with or without red box, cannot become stale).
*The trap's cheese effect must not preserve the cheese from staling

This suggests that to get stale cheese, one must use a trap with a stale cheese effect baited with a cheese that does not attract very many mice.

Weapons with a stale effect include
*Insanely Stale: Arcane Capturing Rod Of Never Yielding Mystery, Obelisk of Incineration
*Very Stale: (Chrome Edition), Mouse Rocketine
*Stale: Mouse DeathBot, PartyBot, Sinister Portal, Tacky Glue Trap

There is only one base to date with a stale effect.
*Explosive Base

Cheddar or White Cheddar are the two kinds of cheese with the lowest attraction. In most areas, these cheeses will still attract some mice. The Mousoleum, Catacombs, Forbidden Grove or Acolyte Realm are areas where few or no mice are drawn to standard cheeses. In these locations, traps collect the most stale cheese in the least amount of time.

Stale cheese farming is nearly as effective with a Wooden Base with Target or Birthday Cake Base rather than the Explosive. These bases attract more mice, therefore reducing the opportunities for stale cheese drops. In some areas, there is a reason to use these alternate bases because of the possibility of catching rare mice or collecting rare loot or potions (Meadow, Town of Digby, Bazaar, Laboratory).
