The Hunter's Horn signifies that you are going out to check your trap.

It can bring disappointment if a mouse ate a piece of cheese without setting off your trap, affecting your morale (losing experience) or while your back was turned stole some of your gold. You might also find that treasured mouse you have been searching for trapped with a great prize.

The other Hunters in your hunting party that are in your location will follow you out to check their traps if they are ready.

By sounding the horn, you show courage and are awarded experience points. Sound the horn loud and clear to continue with the hunt for mice and as often as you can!
