Changes to the page

Any major changes to the page must be made by consensus. Changes made without discussion will automatically be reverted. However, minor touch-up to the formatting and such is fine. In any case, please post the changes or proposed changes here. Don't forget to also update the whole list of related articles. -- Grexx 18:38, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Added simple sorting instructions to the Weapons and Base tables. -- Grexx 17:49, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
  • Clarified the requirement of Location Bait Preference by adding its own subsection into the guide. -- Grexx 17:03, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Outstanding Issues

Have yet to decide on the default sorting layout for the tables. Candidates are:

  1. Alphabetic order
  2. Power Type order
  3. Natural Encounter order

Currently a brief discussion is taking place on User:M.'s talk page here: User talk:M.#Weapon Tables, although it should probably be in the Traps talk page. A discussion has been concluded on a similar issue here: Talk:Traps#Trap Order. -- Grexx 17:49, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I was supposed to comment on that, but I got the "Edit Conflict" message. I prefer the alphabetical order by the way. I think it's always better to sort it by the first column, which in most cases is always the name. By the way, I'll probably start doing the Bases and Weapons pages tomorrow. I made a script that automatically makes tables based on statistics I input. Makes my life easier. :D --Mikeyco 17:54, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Ah edit conflict is due basically to someone posting faster than you starting on the same line. All you need to do is edit the article again and copy and paste your text. Conflicts on main articles is another issue, but rarely happens since the wiki software recognizes individual lines rather than entire articles.
Anyways, I'm sure you've figured out how the statistics work by now hence the scripting, but if you need to double check anything, you can look at M.'s sandbox: User:M./sandbox and also Peter888's sandbox: User:Peter888/Sandbox -- Grexx 18:17, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
I like the alphabetical order. -- Camomiletea 19:43, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

We'll stick with the alphabetical order as discussed. For sortable tables, don't forget to include a quick intro on how to sort for those unfamiliar with it. -- Grexx 19:48, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Weapon Table - layout suggestion

I implemented the requests from Grexx and tweaked the physical tables on my playground and would like to have some feedback now, please.... _____m. 00:09, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Every attribute will need it's own header. While it might look clean, not every player can instantly connect that it is the basic power. Additionally, for any final changes, do try to keep both the weapon and base tables synchronized, since they are essentially the same information but flipped around. This will make it easy for players to connect the 2 types of tables together. As for the whether the column should be in there, you'll need to consider what the table is used for. Personally I use them to do comparisons on the combined stats so I'm not really bothered with that column as long as the numbers are correct :) -- Grexx 01:58, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Updates needed

Something I missed out when creating the MOS page, so now I need someone to coordinate and finalize the layout of the weapon and mice info boxes as needed. For example, order of loot, order of locations, order of bait preference, guideline on point and gold values etc. Basically a further clarification of the data that should and should not be in the info boxes, as well as how it can be best displayed in a uniform layout. Thanks in advance to whoever takes it up. If not, I will proceed with it on my own time, but probably only somewhere around late May 2009. -- Grexx 15:24, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Multi-item Recipe Pricing

Per the forum, there are a lot of people confused by the fact that recipes list per-item prices. What would you think about updating the manual of style to add each to make it obvious that we are listing the per-item price? For example:

Formula

Formula: Dehydration Base
Description Qty Cost (Each)
Dehydration Base Blueprints 1 22,330
Splintered Wood 4 150 / Loot
Salt 213 6
Total 23,608 – 24,208

-- ericb talkcontr 14:29, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm willing to tackle the necessary edits, if I get consensus -- ericb talkcontr 15:28, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm all for it, although, I've put a very slight modification to the Salt total box to show the total cost upon hovering the mouse cursor above the table cell. Any thoughts on that one? Draobyek 10:45, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
I like it! I had no idea you could do that. Does using a title with a range for items like splintered wood make sense? -- ericb talkcontr 17:00, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
I wasn't so sure about that, but it'll probably help for those who take the quicker route and purchase everything. Draobyek 10:35, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
I like the clarification that the cost is per item. I'm not wild about the tooltip for the total amount. If we want to provide that information, that's okay, but not as a tooltip, but in some other more obvious way, like a separate column or something. -- camomiletea 05:06, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Updating the formula box style

Right now, we have:

Formula: Ambush Trap
Description Qty Cost (Each)
Ambush Trap Blueprints 1 Loot
Master's Seal 1 Loot / Crafting
Rice Paper 3 220
Splintered Wood 5 150 / Loot
Droid Parts 8 7,750
Total 62,660+

One idea for improving things is:

Formula: Ambush Trap
Description Qty Cost (Each) Source
Ambush Trap Blueprints 1 Loot Assassin Mouse and Worker Mouse in Dojo and Hapless Mouse in Meditation Room and Pinnacle Chamber
Master's Seal 1 Loot / Crafting Dojo Sensei in Pinnacle Chamber or by combining 1 each of Master Belt Shard, Master Claw Shard. Master Fang Shard
Rice Paper 3 220 Training Grounds GS
Splintered Wood 5 150 / Loot Training Grounds GS and as loot from a variety of mice throughout the Kingdom
Droid Parts 8 7,750 Bazaar GS
Total 62,660+

But that's too narrow, the cost column now feels a bit redundant with the source column, and it still leaves out one other piece of information: what tasks will unlock the recipe.

How about:

Formula: Ambush Trap
Item Source Qty Cost (Each)
Ambush Trap Blueprints 1 Loot
Master's Seal 1 Loot / Crafting
Rice Paper 3 220
Splintered Wood 5 150 / Loot
Droid Parts 8 7,750
Unlock via: Complete all of these: Total 62,660+

-- ericb talkcontr 12:31, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

How about this:

Formula: Ambush Trap
Description Qty Cost (Each) Source
Ambush Trap Blueprints 1 Loot Assassin Mouse and Worker Mouse in Dojo and Hapless Mouse in Meditation Room and Pinnacle Chamber
Master's Seal 1 Loot / Crafting Dojo Sensei in Pinnacle Chamber or by combining 1 each of Master Belt Shard, Master Claw Shard. Master Fang Shard

Splintered Wood 5 150 / Loot Training Grounds GS and as loot from a variety of mice throughout the Kingdom
Droid Parts 8 7,750 Bazaar GS
Total 62,660+

Or how about this:

Formula: Ambush Trap
Recipe can be unlocked by: Complete all of these: Catch Master of the Cheese Belt, Catch Master of the Cheese Claw, Catch Master of the Cheese Fang

Transclusion of item source

By placing the source of an item into a page, we can easily transclude this piece of information in multiple places. Makes maintenance much easier and avoid human error (typos, inconsistencies etc).

For those who are not very familiar with this, all you need to do is put some information in a page: it can be anywhere. For example, by adding some content to User:Bencmq/sandbox, and using the syntax {{User:Bencmq/sandbox}}, it would produce the following:

Manual of Style
Mouse Group: ??
Mouse Statistics
Points: ?? Weaknesses: ??
Gold: ?? Bait Pref: ??
Mouse Info
Locations: ?? Loot: ??
Larry's Loot Lexicon: ?? Image: ??

quoting directly from my user sandbox page.

Maybe a few different ways we can organise this.

  1. Place the source of splintered wood at Template:Source/Splintered Wood, to use, syntax is {{Source/Splintered Wood}}
  2. Place the source of splintered wood at Template:Splintered Wood/source, same usage
  3. Or, instead we can place them under the article, so for example Splintered Wood/source. However this would not be recognised as a subpage of Splintered Wood, and the syntax would be {{:Splintered Wood/source}}, note the extra colon needed. So I would suggest agains this.
I'd suggest the first one--Bencmq 16:17, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
I also like the Template:Source/Item naming convention. -- ericb talkcontr 16:49, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
