Obviously it's not *quite* that simple, so let's compare stats with each base, shall we?

Well, what are you looking for? Sinister Portal will catch the mouse a little bit more often, while the Ambrosial Portal will give a greater chance of attracting mice, along with making sure cheese doesn't go stale. The Ambrosial Portal will give you more chances to catch mice, but the Sinister Portal will give you the best chance to catch the mouse once it is attracted. Your choice of which trap to use may be impacted by if you are going after the less common mice like the Black Widow, Monster or Vampire.

Radioactive Blue cheese provides a high level of attraction in the Mousoleum which is an argument for the Sinister Portal since you don't need the attraction bonus of the Ambrosial Portal if you have a cheese with a high attraction rate. However Radioactive Blue cheese is a crafted cheese that is expensive to make which is an argument for the Ambrosial Portal since you will lose less cheese to the Stale Cheese effect.

Closer Examination
Based on those stats, we can draw this conclusion: you're going to gain approximately 50-60 damage by using the sinister portal, for any base. Is that worth the 5% drop in attraction along with the 2-level drop in cheese freshness?

Well, what are you looking for? Sinister Portal will catch the mouse a little bit more often, while the Ambrosial Portal will give a greater chance of attracting mice, along with making sure cheese doesn't go stale.

Most people would say Sinister. Portals are typically used in the Mousoleum, where encounters are frequent, but captures are unfortunately not. That little boost in attack makes a difference. However, the two traps are so close together that it really comes down to preference.

MouseHunt Analytics Comparison: Ambrosial Portal vs Sinister Portal

Revision as of 04:28, 24 April 2009

It's really too close to call.

The Sinister is more powerful but has less attraction and a negative cheese effect. The Ambrosial has less power but higher attraction and a lower chance of spoiling your cheese.

Closer Examination

The hunter will gain between 53-67 power by using the sinister portal depending on the base.

Portals are typically used in the Mousoleum, where encounters are frequent, but captures are unfortunately not. That little boost in power or attraction could make a difference. The two traps are so close together that it really comes down to the hunter's preference.
