Talk:Festive Comet

From MHWiki
Revision as of 17:32, 8 December 2009 by Camomiletea (talk | contribs) ('12 to be exact'....: typos)

Not sure on the type of mice - physical/tactical/hydro etc. There are no messages for anyone in this zone about trap being effective or not no matter what type of trap they use. Therefore, either all mice are physical, or trap type does not matter in this zone. Needs some investigation.

I think power types just came into effect. I'm using HVMT, and my log now says "very effective" for a Dwarf catch and "less effective" for a Hydra encounter. There was no trap effect with the Present Mouse (only seasonal one I've caught so far). —MearsMan talk 01:14, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Power Type: Special?

All the special event mice up to this point have had Physical power type. Now it's not possible to really verify because on individual mice there's no indication of power type. Still, it seems sort of odd to me to see this new "Special" power type. Anyone else? Can we perhaps ask the devs to comfirm the power types for these new mice? -- Camomiletea 14:25, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

To me, this seems like a guess as it's practically impossible to tell what power type they are from the All Mice page. However, I do know they're not of either Tactical or Forgotten mice.. That leaves Physical, Hydro, Shadow and Arcane power types to be tested for. Draobyek 14:55, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually... On a quick hunter jumping tour, I can tell they're not of Hydro either. Draobyek 14:56, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

I would speculate that the "special" type has no strengths or weaknesses.

Could these mice simply be physical mice? Is there any evidence against it? (or for it, for that matter?). I think 'special' power type is just speculation. WyndStryke 15:26, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
I would say these should be put as physical. Special seems to imply there's unusual rules about it, and I would take that to mean that they are normal for every trap. But they're not normal when using Ice Maiden (I tried it), which makes them seem more like physical. Spinnercat 01:32, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for input, everyone! I've switched to Physical on this page, and will go through to make the change on individual pages. -- Camomiletea 02:36, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Mice Locations

Need some feedback on whether we should add the Festive Comet as a location to each of the Mice here, especially those that can be found elsewhere such as Abominable Snow, Bear etc. My thoughts is that it should be included since as per the event description, it is expected to be an annual event. However we can't be 100% sure they'll be introducing the same location every year, but considering all other events, they've remained pretty consistent (ie Halloween event). At the very least it should be included during the current event duration. Comments? -- Grexx 09:06, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

I dunno. It's 12 days out of 365. Not sure it's really worth having it there the remaining 353 days of the year when a simple glance at this page tells players exactly which mice are located here. I just don't see the EXTREMELY limited benefit of having the category as outweighing the potential confusion and clutter of having it there when the location is unavailable the overwhelming majority of the year (unlike Ronza's, which comes around regularly). --B.Rossow · talk 13:30, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
I have been adding the mice location for a reason. Information is key. It may be trite to simply state that these mice are available in the comet for future purposes, but right now, the comet is still going and it is important to share with people that they can catch things such as the Abominable Snow, etc. It won't clutter too much to put a sentence in as I have done with a few edits, I'm glad this issue came up though. -Mdavidof
It's fine to add it as a line of text. I misread Grexx's original query as whether to add it as a separate (new) category, which I think is overkill. Mentioning that they are (and soon "were") available at the Comet is fine and appropriate. Let's try to be consistent when so doing, however, and be sure to use the correct, full name of the event. I suggest adding this to the location info: "and the Festive Comet during The Great Winter Hunt '09 event."
I concur. I was struggling to edit this on chrome, is this a browser issue that is known? or my computer security is an issue? Anyways, they currently are there and will soon be "were there"... as long as the language follows your location info, it would be clear to a common reader that currently they can catch these mice and in the future, they will know that this event draws rare mice such as the ASM out, which helps inform them.
Dunno about Chrome, but make sure the URL you're using to edit starts with "mhwiki.hitgrab.com" rather than "mousehunt.hitgrab.com" (the old subdomain for this wiki). The latter will work for reading the wiki, but it's hit and miss for editing purposes -- most often it will give an error about loss of session data when trying to save your edit. --B.Rossow · talk 21:02, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
In my opinion, it should be treated similarly to Ronza's Travelling Shoppe. That location is not included on the individual mice pages, because it is not always available. I think it's fine to have that information for the duration of the event, but remove from the mice pages afterwards, since it won't be available anymore, and we can't be sure that Festive Comet will be the same next year. -- Camomiletea 22:34, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Maybe in the Trivia section? --B.Rossow · talk 00:32, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

'12 to be exact'....

Hi guys, was wondering if you could help me out here....

Larry's comments about catching all the different things may prove to be a benefit has got me a little muddled. He says that 'some of the resident mice have been seen to be carry things... 12 to be exact' (my apologizes if that's not verbatim). I only counted 9 mice that drop things. Then I had a thought, maybe he meant 12 items... that would work, except there's only 10 different items.

Have I missed something completely, or should I go back to counting on my fingers? :-P

Thanks!

I notice there are 12 items that you can give as gifts to others:
1, 2 & 3 are: Swiss, Brie & Gouda, which (I'm guessing) would simply join the recipient's stash of these baits.
4, 5, 6 & 7 are: Greeting Card, Mistletoe, Posing Mouse Action Figure & Christmas Coal, which may end up being useful(?)
8 is: Burroughs Laboratory Map Piece, which would (probably) just join the recipient's stash of Maps(?)
9 is: Slightly Smaller Gift, which can be opened to "become" a new item from this listing (except #1,#2,#3,#8(?))
10, 11 & 12 are: Candies, Icing Sugar & Plank of Gingerbread, which will likely be useful in crafting--PeterB 00:40, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
The devs also said in the ticker "As the Festive Comet slowly melts more of its mysteries will be revealed! Watch this ticker and news for announcements!" and in the Feedback Friday that as the comet melts the mice will find more stuff. So there are more things coming. It's more fun that way, that not everything is released right away (at least the devs think that!) Be patient. :) -- Camomiletea 17:31, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
