King's rewards affecting Rank Progression

Looking at the description of the rank progression now, I think we need some information either ways whether points from the various avenues other than mice catches (ie point loot, king's reward) actually affects it.

I know that it used to be a factor in rank progression, because in April 2008 when I first started playing, I ranked up on a horn call with a failed to attract. However that was when rank progression was based on a fixed value, which they changed not too long after into one that took in many more factors.

It'd be good if anyone can point to information that will settle the issue. In the meantime leave it as describing not, since it won't really make a difference how people play the game anyways. -- Grexx 09:23, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Dave Vanderburg could speak authoritatively on this (and likely would have changed it or made a comment here, as he has done with other inaccurate info). I feel I've bothered him with enough wiki questions for the time being, but if someone else wants to ask him for his input I don't think it would be out of line.  :-) -- B.Rossow talkcontr 13:44, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

I've found rules for the rank progress. I've monitored my progress and king's rewards and even loot such as "Lab Research worth X bonus points" is not taken into account. What is? Here are the rules I've found:

  1. There are some base rank points depending on your current Rank (Apprentice=0.1%; Journeyman=0.08%; Master=0.03% - this is not exact)
  2. You get only base points when you don't catch a mouse in your hunt (and that means that your cheese went stale, or mouse wasn't attracted or even that the mouse grabbed the cheese and run away).
  3. Every points you earn for a mouse are multiplied by some factor and added to base rank points. The factor is also different on every Rank. For the Master rank the factor is somewhere around 0,000115 - yes, this is not much!
  4. Final, but also most important thing is that on your hourly hunts you only get half of your rank progress!

So e.g. for the Master rank Rank progression may be found from this formula:

0.03 + [points for the catch] * 0.000115

Note, that there are some hunts that might give you a little more or a little less progression. I think there is some random number added at the end of the formula. --Nux 10:21, 26 October 2009 (UTC) PS: Use this knowledge wisely ;-)

Category

I think that this page would be better categorised as Terminology rather than Gameplay. Are others of the same opinion? I think the Gameplay box on the homepage looks a little cluttered and this small change would help. --Le6o 01:06, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Offsite links needed

Noticed the rank shields are linked to the MH servers. Can someone make the necessary changes by uploading it somewhere else and linking the image. Thanks! -- Grexx 05:59, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm on it! :) Victor.Song 00:51, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Brackets & Clarity

I think some things need to be made slightly clearer.

1) "mouse_factor * points_for_mouse + base_points" I think brackets should be introduced as multiplying first gives a lower answer than adding first. Mathmatically you should multiply first.

2) "Rank advancement formula when a hunter is going on a hunt" Does this include when someone goes on a hunt for you (because they are in the same area)? This could be cleared up either with: "Rank advancement formula when a hunter sounds their own horn" or "Rank advancement formula when a hunter has their horn sounded by anyone", or something along those lines. Ad.1) The formula is mathematically correct, no need for brackets.
Ad.2) I believe this is clarified in the "Rank Advancement" section, but I guess it might be put in clearer words. Still, there are only two formulas of which one is for hourly trap checks, so the other one is for any other.
