Overview
Treasure Map or Wanted Poster is a set of mice the hunters are required to catch for a special reward. The difficulty, number and the location of the mice on the list depend on the type of map, and each type of map yields a different type of Treasure Chest (Bounty Reward in the case of Wanted Posters). The mice on the list may be caught in any order, with exception of the Ringleaders on the Wanted Posters which can only be caught after the other mice on the list.
+
PAGENAME is a gameplay mechanic, in which a group of Hunters have a list of targeted mice or items to catch or loot.

By default, maps and posters are Common, but they can be upgraded to Rare with Rare Map Dust to increase the loot from the Treasure Chest. If a player upgrades the map, it affects all players following that map. Upgrading a map does not affect the difficulty of the mice on the list, only the rewards for completing the map. All maps can be upgraded.
+
Treasure Hunting consists of these steps:
 +
*Step 1: open a Scroll Case
 +
*Step 2a: invite more Hunters to join the map
 +
*Step 2b: catch mice or loot items in the map
 +
*Step 3: claim a Treasure Chest

A hunter can only follow a single Treasure Map/Wanted Poster at any given time. Hunters can choose to discard a map at any time, and can immediately open or join another.
+
Step 2a and 2b don't need to be done in any order.

Treasure Maps and Wanted Posters can be found under the Special tab of the inventory, but disappear once they are completed or discarded.
+
Map type
 +
There a 3 types of Treasure Map that the Hunter can work on at the same time:
 +
*Non-event Treasure Maps
 +
*Event Treasure Maps
 +
*Wanted Posters

The hunter that opened the map/poster can add up to four other hunters to the team in the case of a treasure map, or one other hunter ("deputy") in the case of a wanted poster.  When an additional hunter is added to the map hunt team, this message is displayed for the new member:
+
Treasure Hunting
:You're now following a Treasure Map! Hunt down all the mice to find the Treasure Chest!
+
To work on a Treasure Map, the Hunter first needs to join one by either:
The new member also has this event added to their Hunter's Journal:
+
*Opening a Scroll Case
:Treasure Map: I have joined in on a treasure hunt! I should help catch the mice required to find the treasure chest!
+
*Accept the map invite
:Wanted Poster: I have joined in on a Wanted Poster hunt! I should help catch the lawless mice to earn that Bounty Reward!

For every successful catch of mice listed in the Treasure Map, the hunter that caught the mouse receives a Treasure Map Clue collectible as loot. For every successful catch of mice in the Wanted Poster, a message is displayed  in the Hunter's Journal instead, one of:
+
In a Treasure Map, a designated Hunter has the map ownership.
:I've caught a member of the gang! Only X remain until I can smoke out the ringleader!; or
+
*This is by default granted to the Hunter who opens the Scroll Case, but can be transferred to any other Hunter in the map.
:I've caught the crew and have found where the ringleader is hiding out! I should hunt him down to receive my Bounty Reward!
+
*If the Hunter with ownership leaves the map, the ownership is automatically transfer to a random remaining Hunter.

While on a team, the heads-up-display includes a count of how many mice remain to be caught; clicking on that link gives a pop-up that includes a thumbnail of each mouse, and which have already been caught. The treasure maps indicate which team members have caught which mice; posters don't. Viewing Larry's Loot Lexicon for map_clue_stat_item also lists the remaining mice, even for posters where no map clues are added to the inventory.
+
Each map has a list of mice (or a list of items if the map is a Scavenger Hunt).
 +
*Each time the Hunter catch a mouse on the list, that mouse drops a Treasure Map Clue and it gets marked as caught (and no longer drop map clue after that). Each time the Hunter loot an item on the list, the mouse drops a Scavenger Hunt Hint and it gets marked as looted (and no longer drop hunt hint after that).
 +
*Once all the mice (or items) are cleared, the map is marked as completed.
 +
**Each Hunter in the map can claim a Treasure Chest.
 +
***It can either be a Common Chest or a Rare Chest depending on whether the map is a Rare map. Rare chests contain better rewards.
 +
**Invites cannot be sent once the map is completed.

The pop-up also includes a button where any hunter on the team can click to apply Rare Map Dust (it does not have to be the person that started the map).
+
Each map is a Common map by default. Using a Rare Map Dust on the map makes it a Rare map.
:Rare Treasure Maps reward everyone that helped with upgraded treasure chests containing:
+
*This can be done by any Hunter in the map.
:- Two times the points!

:- Two times the gold!

:- Two times the Ancient Charms!

:- More loot!

:- And twice the chance of super-rare loot!

:An upgraded map doubles the rewards for each hunter!

:It will not change the difficulty of the map, nor will it modify the mice required.

The pop-up also has a button to Discard the map for the original owner (no recovery possible), or to Leave the map for the additional hunters.  If an additional hunter leaves, the mice they caught are still tracked for the remaining team members (no progress is lost).  The leaving hunter has this message displayed in their Journal:
+
Journal Entries
:I left the treasure hunt. I should hunt and catch a Relic Hunter to find a new Treasure Map!

Consolation Mode
In order to obtain a map, a hunter has to open a Treasure Map Scroll Case or Living Garden Scroll Case which is dropped by a Relic Hunter Mouse. In order to obtain a poster, a hunter will need to catch a Bounty Hunter Mouse instead.
+
Rainbow Treasure Maps and Event Treasure Maps introduced after the beginning of Relic Hunter Season 3 may be cashed out before completion when the map owner chooses to activate Consolation Mode.

Regular Treasure Maps
Activating Consolation Mode rewards the map owner with a consolation prize based on the completion level of the map. Hunters remaining on the map may then choose to also accept the consolation reward or attempt to complete the map and earn the treasure chest.
Catching the mice listed on this map will drop clues which when combined will show you where to find an incredible Treasure Chest!

There are 5 regular treasure_map_message_item: Easy, Medium, Hard, Elaborate and Arduous.  In the Special tab, you can only see that you have a scroll case; you have to open the scroll case to obtain a map, and open the map on the Heads-up Display to see whether the map is common or rare, and which of the five levels it is. These maps typically contain mice in a variety of locations. Hunters can invite up to 4 friends to help catch the mice for these maps.
+
Rare Map Dust will not be returned, but dusted maps that are cashed out will have higher consolation rewards.

Overview

Treasure Map is a gameplay mechanic, in which a group of Hunters have a list of targeted mice or items to catch or loot.

Treasure Hunting consists of these steps:

  • Step 1: open a Scroll Case
  • Step 2a: invite more Hunters to join the map
  • Step 2b: catch mice or loot items in the map
  • Step 3: claim a Treasure Chest

Step 2a and 2b don't need to be done in any order.

Map type

There a 3 types of Treasure Map that the Hunter can work on at the same time:

Treasure Hunting

To work on a Treasure Map, the Hunter first needs to join one by either:

In a Treasure Map, a designated Hunter has the map ownership.

  • This is by default granted to the Hunter who opens the Scroll Case, but can be transferred to any other Hunter in the map.
  • If the Hunter with ownership leaves the map, the ownership is automatically transfer to a random remaining Hunter.

Each map has a list of mice (or a list of items if the map is a Scavenger Hunt).

  • Each time the Hunter catch a mouse on the list, that mouse drops a Treasure Map Clue and it gets marked as caught (and no longer drop map clue after that). Each time the Hunter loot an item on the list, the mouse drops a Scavenger Hunt Hint and it gets marked as looted (and no longer drop hunt hint after that).
  • Once all the mice (or items) are cleared, the map is marked as completed.
    • Each Hunter in the map can claim a Treasure Chest.
      • It can either be a Common Chest or a Rare Chest depending on whether the map is a Rare map. Rare chests contain better rewards.
    • Invites cannot be sent once the map is completed.

Each map is a Common map by default. Using a Rare Map Dust on the map makes it a Rare map.

  • This can be done by any Hunter in the map.

Journal Entries

Joining a treasure map creates an entry in the Hunter's Journal.

  • Treasure Map
I have joined in on a treasure hunt! I should help catch the mice required to find the treasure chest!
  • Wanted Poster
I have joined in on a Wanted Poster hunt! I should help catch the lawless mice to earn that Bounty Reward!
I've caught a member of the gang! Only X remain until I can smoke out the ringleader!
I've caught the crew and have found where the ringleader is hiding out! I should hunt him down to receive my Bounty Reward!

Completing a map creates an entry in the Hunter's Journal

  • Treasure Map
I successfully completed a [Map Name] Treasure Map! Everyone who helped has been rewarded with one [Map Name] Treasure Chest each!
I should claim my reward now!
[Hunter Name] caught [Mouse Name], ending the treasure hunt!

  • Wanted Poster
I successfully completed a Wanted Poster: [Gang Name]! The Marshall granted us our Bounty Reward for turning in this lawless gang of the Wild Bunch. Time to find another Wanted Poster!
I should claim my reward now!
[Hunter Name] caught [Mouse Name], ending the treasure hunt!
View Map Summary

Leaving a treasure map creates an entry in the Hunter's Journal.

  • Treasure Map
I left the treasure hunt.
I should hunt and catch a Relic Hunter or visit a Cartographer to obtain a new Treasure Map!

Consolation Mode

Rainbow Treasure Maps and Event Treasure Maps introduced after the beginning of Relic Hunter Season 3 may be cashed out before completion when the map owner chooses to activate Consolation Mode.

Activating Consolation Mode rewards the map owner with a consolation prize based on the completion level of the map. Hunters remaining on the map may then choose to also accept the consolation reward or attempt to complete the map and earn the treasure chest.

Rare Map Dust will not be returned, but dusted maps that are cashed out will have higher consolation rewards.

Invites to the map can no longer be sent or accepted once the map is in Consolation Mode.

Event Treasure Maps

These maps require catching Event Mice.

Most of them are available for all ranks.

Redeemable Event Treasure Maps

After the start of Season 3, all new event maps can be redeemed if they remain unfinished at the end of the event.

Redemption will reward all participants with gold, points, and other items, based on how much progress has been made on completing the map.
Redemption will not return Rare Map Dust to the Hunter who upgraded the map but will increase the consolation rewards.
Hunters must have found at least one mouse on the map to be able to redeem it.

Only the Map Captain may activate the Consolation Mode, which will prevent any invites from being sent or claimed.
Each remaining Hunter will be able to choose between claiming the consolation reward or attempting to complete the map and receive the reward chest.
