Hunter's Titles are indicators of experience and seniority in MouseHunt. As a hunter performs his hunts, he becomes more experienced. A more experienced hunter gains access to new areas (though occasionally, they must collect the proper loot) and becomes more effective at hunting and at using potions. The ranks go as follows:

Novice A Novice hunter only has access to the Town of Gnawnia and Meadow locations. The rank of Novice is signified by a white shield next to the player's name.
Apprentice Upon reaching the rank of Apprentice, the player can now hunt in the Harbour location. The rank of Apprentice is signified by a yellow shield next to the player's name.
Journeyman Upon reaching the rank of Journeyman, the player can now hunt in the Mountain location. The rank of Journeyman is signified by an orange shield next to the player's name.
Master Upon reaching the rank of Master, the player is eligible to hunt in the Laboratory, Town of Digby, and Mousoleum locations of the Burroughs area, assuming they have collected the proper loot. It is also the first ranking at which Radioactive Blue Cheese Curd Potions can be collected and used. The rank of Master is signified by a purple shield next to the player's name.
Grandmaster Upon reaching the rank of Grandmaster, the player is eligible to hunt in the Training Grounds location, assuming they have collected the proper loot. Grandmasters also receive a bonus when using potions. The rank of Grandmaster is signified by a blue shield next to the player's name.
Legendary As of November 24th, there is no hunting area exclusive to Legends. However, Legends receive a larger bonus when using potions than Grandmasters. The rank of Legend is signified by a green shield next to the player's name.
Hero As of November 24th, there is no hunting area exclusive to Heroes. However, Heroes receive the largest current bonus when using potions. The rank of Hero is signified by a black shield with a white star in the center next to the player's name.
Knight This is currently the highest available rank. As of November 24th, there is no hunting area exclusive to Knights. Not much is known about the bonus they receive when using potions. The rank of Knight is signified by a black shield with a yellow cross in the center next to the player's name.
Donor The Mousehunt developers recognize players that have donated money through PayPal to purchase Super Brie. Being a donor is not a 'rank' but all donors are given a golden shield next to their name to signify their donation. Players need only donate once to receive their golden shield.

Rank Advancement

Rank advancement is not based directly on the points earned (so, rank will not increase through the King's rewards, sounding the horn, Lab Research etc.) but on the hunter's activity in the game. Rank will advance for trap checks and for going on hunts (even if the hunt is unsuccessful in attracting a mouse or unsuccessful in trapping an attracted mouse) and for catching mice. So a hunter may see their rank improve by hunting and trap checks even though they aren't catching a lot of mice (though this will be at a slower rate than if they actually catch mice).
