Considering this are the rules we should be following, shouldn't there be at least a page of guidelines? We could make them based on Wikipedia and WikiDictionary. What do you think?--Meurquidi 15:55, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- This page should be protected; no one but the developers should be messing with the Copyright page (or any other in the MHWiki namespace, as far as I'm concerned. I'll ping Dave on this. -- B.Rossow talkcontr 15:59, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- Most editors of Wikipedia or any other wiki can tell you that normally rules are made by consensus. But that needs to be decided by the developers.--Meurquidi 16:29, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- Chill. Both have made valid points. Some pages certainly need protection, but they probably won't be able to cover everything. And this topic would have been better brought up in the Main Page talk page without creating an additional talk page. I'm thinking the developers are leaving it up to the common sense of the player base and the more frequent wiki contributors to manage the MHWiki. That plus the fact that the Terms of Service is linked from the front page.
- Neglected to add, that and the fact that they now only accept contributions from registered users (having blocked anon edits, probably due to spam vandalism). Plus the fact that they -can- trace IP addresses back to game accounts (have noticed 1 direct warning of account deletion for spoofing a developer's name).
- Of course, that's not to say that we can't actually craft a decent set of rules for MHWiki editors to use as a guideline :) -- Grexx 16:54, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- I talked here because copyright pages elsewhere have a talk page to determine consensus. The copyright page is a concern, because legally MHWiki needs one, so that there is a clear disclaimer in case any vandal decides to put info that is copyrighted here. Nothing more. But off course it is the Developers call.--Meurquidi 16:59, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Back on topic, I'm wondering if you can provide some examples of what exactly you're looking at so that everyone has a clearer idea and can better comment on them. -- Grexx 17:06, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- Basically the basic things could probably be: mention that when you contribute what you say becomes free to use and that one acknowledges responsibility for not putting copyrighted things, how to manage links so that they don't violate copyright and the basic disclaimers most Wikis have.
