Different mouse populations for different players?
I watched my brother go on a hunt earlier and I noticed something interesting - his mouse populations at the Year of the Dragon Festival were different from mine! I had him try a few different setups, and by checking the trap effectiveness here's what he was able to attract:
No Charm - White, Grey, Brown, Cowardly, Field, Present, Dwarf, Red Envelope, Calligraphy (with SB+)
Firecracker charm - Field, Present, Dwarf, New Years, Red Envelope, Costumed Tiger, Calligraphy (with SB+)
Nitropop - Partyhead, New Years, Red Envelope, Costumed Rabbit, Calligraphy (with SB+)
My brother is currently ranked Hero, but he's never traveled past the Catacombs and has spent minimal time in Furoma. So this has me wondering: do hunter's of different ranks encounter different mouse populations at the Year of the Dragon Festival? Or does something different influence this? Either way, I feel we should look into this more. —MearsMan talk 23:27, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

- I looked again, and I was mistaken about my Hero friend... there are white, field and cowardly, etc. now. (And he's been to Furoma, has some Masters.) If it is rank-based, then Hero seems the last rank for the lower mice; Knights among my friends are catching student mice and none of those colored and lowly Gnawnia mice. Hopefully it will be clearer by tomorrow.
- and we need to decide how to present this information... I'm thinking a separate table, because this is going to be confusing all in one table with the Xs. Suggestions, thoughts?-- camomiletea 06:04, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Based on everything we've been able to discern thus far and by looking at the hunting results on Horntracker I feel that at this point it's fairly safe to say that hunters ranked Novice—Hero attract the first group of "Indigenous" mice while hunters ranked Knight and above encounter the second "Furoma" group. The only alternative to your idea that I can readily think of would be to do something similar to the King's Gauntlet article and have a table for each tier/charm setup (no charm, firecracker, nitropop, and dragon breath) with columns denoting which ranks can attract which mice (as is currently done with X's for charms). I keep going back and forth as to which would be the better option, though. What do you think? Would it be easier to make sense of two larger tables or four smaller ones? —MearsMan talk 07:16, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- In King's Gauntlet (and Seasonal Garden now that I think of it), the mice in a particular tier (season) are all different from other tiers/seasons, whereas here some mice appear in several stages, which can be more easily seen if we use two large tables, and will be a bit "lost" in four tables. Because mice repeat, I felt that the structure of the Haunted Terrortories fit better.
- It could also be one big table with a column for Hero-and-below, split into three sub-columns of charms; a column for Knight-and-above with three subcolumns; and a column for all ranks for Dragon Breath charm. The table might get quite wide though. Testing below -- camomiletea 08:03, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Mouse | Points | Gold | Mouse Group | Normal | Fire- cracker |
Nitro- pop |
Normal | Fire- cracker |
Nitro- pop |
Dragon Breath |
Loot |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Hero and below | Knight and above | All ranks |
I think this is easily the best option so far. If you don't mind, I'd like to go ahead and try to implement this. If for some reason it doesn't work we can always make tweaks along the way or revert to the current table while reevaluating our options here. —MearsMan talk 20:33, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- I don't have any low ranked accounts to test so I can't contribute data, but just a reminder that novice, recruit, apprentice and initiate cannot use charms, hence they are unable to attract costumed dragon mouse and complete the event. — YiKai 14:57, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
HUD based on firecracker count
Has anyone else noticed that the bin of Firecracker Charms on the left of the HUD changes as you get more charms? Based on the graphic, there are 5 levels, but based on my current experience, I only know these ranges:
- empty: 0
- low: 1 to 49
- medium: 50 to ??
- full: ??
- overflowing: ?? (as low as 240) or more
Does anyone have more details on all the cutoffs, and where should we document this? -- ericb talkcontr 13:47, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
