I think that this is a great area for anyone to post a little bit of nonsense. It lets people add what they want to and not get in trouble for misleading noobs because it has a myth tag on it. So just let it be. It's not doing any harm. It helps noobies see the truth and we're having a bit of fun with it as well

A "Salt Extractor" would logically extract salt and use it to keep cheese fresh. I'm not sure what the author of this article thought that this meant, but that's the way I see it.

Historical Event

Given its large impact on the community, and as it is the first "fictional" environment that created such a sensation, the Salt Mines page will remain on the wiki. Another benefit of keeping this page is to give players (especially those who have come to believe in the Salt Mines as a real location) the ability to search and find that the Salt Mines are, in fact, part of mythology. --Giorgio Sintichakis 22:22, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

  • Redirecting them to the Myths article may be simpler. Revengeance 08:10, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
There is a richer history to this myth than most, and it would clutter up the Myths page if it was included. --Giorgio Sintichakis 19:37, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
  • Knowing you cheeky developers, the reference in the Ionized Salt description was probably why you were keen on keeping this around. If the Burroughs River and Furoma Bridge get articles, so should this. The Salt Mines exist! Revengeance 15:11, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

No such location

If the Salt Mines do not exist, then why do we need an article about something that doesn't exist in the world of MouseHunt and/or relating to the game in a way? I'm tagging a {{deletion}} template to this until someone gives me a reasonable explanation. Also, don't put locations that do not exist onto the Locations page, it will only cause more confusion. --Peter888 02:06, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes, delete. --Mulleflupp 12:55, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
It's open for argument but I'm going to have to agree that this doesn't really need an entire page. If anything it should only that it was once a suggested hunting area and because of that a reference was made to the fan suggestion in the description of Ionized Salt. To go to such lengths and listing in detail each and ever aspect of the fan suggestion seems a but too much. --Dave Vanderburg 13:32, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

I think that this is a great area for anyone to post a little bit of nonsense. It lets people add what they want to and not get in trouble for misleading noobs because it has a myth tag on it. So just let it be. It's not doing any harm. It helps noobies see the truth and we're having a bit of fun with it as well

Tynan Barlow, Creator of Myth page

You just described the Myths article. Fan fantasies shouldn't venture outside of it, or this wiki will be flooded with nonfactual nonsense. Revengeance 13:50, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Switch

Since the Salt Mines is an actual in-game reference now, shouldn't the fan speculation be put into a dedicated section and the real information be the main focus of this article? Revengeance 10:16, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

It was referenced but is not a real location at this point in time. While I agree the article needs serious cleanup, I'd be reluctant to describe the Salt Mines as an actual location. To be frank, there is no "real information" about the Salt Mines beyond a passing mention in one item description. While that info should be at the top of the article and not a footnote at the bottom, the Salt Mines are still overwhelmingly more myth than fact. IMHO. -- B.Rossow talkcontr 17:39, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
I know it's not a location, if that's what you mean... so it definitely shouldn't be categorized as one in any way. But it's been mentioned in-game as the place where Ionized Salt comes from, making it official, making it a part of the MH world. You can't argue that. Revengeance 14:30, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

One Small Problem

While this is not a big issue, parts of the Inside the Salt Mines section do not seem to make sense. A "Salt Extractor" would logically extract salt and use it to keep cheese fresh. I'm not sure what the author of this article thought that this meant, but that's the way I see it.
