According to the wiki [http://mhwiki.hitgrab.com/wiki/index.php/MHWiki:Manual_of_Style#Location_Mice guidelines] a mouse is marked rare if the chance of encountering it is less than 1 in 100 (1%). :::Wow, that's a lot of hard work to get back to the original numbers in the code. I'm going to be doing an update at some point, when I do, would it be a lot easier for me just to pull out any populations under 1% and put up a list somewhere? If so, how would we like to deal with changing cheeses in a location, for example, if using RB in the cats it's very rare to encounter a vampire, but if you use ancient, you get a lot more of them. -- [[User:Twentypence|Twentypence]] 03:51, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

:::: My view is that a mouse should only be considered rare if under 1% (or maybe less than 0.75%) when using it's favorite cheese. For example the monster mouse is not rare in the lab but will only come to your trap if you are using SuperBrie cheese. Just because certain mice turn up the noses and walk away from your trap becuase of your cheese choice doesn't mean that they are not there. Currently the Nibble mouse is marked as rare is some locations where it is a matter of cheese choice. -- [[User:Ralphminer|Ralphminer]] 11:17, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Nomad Mouse

According to the wiki guidelines a mouse is marked rare if the chance of encountering it is less than 1 in 100 (1%). The nomad mouse is encountered around 1.1% see Mouse Populations. -- Ralphminer 15:09, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Splintered Wood

Treants may drop Splintered Wood in this location too. I haven't seen it myself, but apparently some people think they got a piece [1]. -- Camomiletea 22:10, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Rare Mice

How is it determined which mice are rarely encountered? Should the fairly mouse be considered rarely encountered since it appears only 0.8% of the time? -- Ralphminer 04:05, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Rare mice are those which are encountered less than 1 of 100 times. If Fairy is encountered 0.8%, it would qualify. What is the source of your statistic? It seemed like I encountered it more often, although I could hardly catch it. -- Camomiletea 04:50, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
I was using the catch rate estimate tool - taking the estimated number of catches divided by the estimated catch rate. Doing this the Black Widow gets a score of 0.32, the Bat gets a score of 0.66, and the Fairy mouse gets a score of 0.89. For the Fairy mouse I did this with a setup of the ambush trap / explosive base / SuperBrie cheese which has an estimate of 0.44 catches per 100 hunts with a catch rate of 49.5% so 0.44 / 0.495 is 0.88888 which if you divide by the attraction rate (rank Lord with shield on) of 0.9925 gives an overall percentage of Fairy mice around 0.90%. Using this method in other locations the Abomimable Snow mouse in the Mountains comes in at 0.66%, the mole mouse in the meadow at 0.38%, the Pirate mouse in the Meadow at 0.59%. If there are no objections I would like to leave the Fairy mouse as is since 0.90 is close to 1% but I would like to update the Bat mouse as rarely encountered in GGT. I would like to suggest a threshold of 0.67% for updating the existing pages. -- Ralphminer 11:57, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Wow, that's a lot of hard work to get back to the original numbers in the code. -- Twentypence 03:51, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
My view is that a mouse should only be considered rare if under 1% (or maybe less than 0.75%) when using it's favorite cheese. For example the monster mouse is not rare in the lab but will only come to your trap if you are using Radioactive Blue cheese. Just because certain mice turn up the noses and walk away from your trap becuase of your cheese choice doesn't mean that they are not there. Currently the Nibble mouse is marked as rare is some locations where it is a matter of cheese choice. -- Ralphminer 11:17, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
We've been using the 1/100 encounter rate under best cheese conditions as the guideline, which was also mentioned in the Manual of Style. The figure was picked as it's easy to understand and calculate, and rarity is also a term used on the MH Wiki rather than in the game itself. Additionally, more info is needed on whether the Nibbler is rare under SB+ conditions in each location, but that's not too easy to come by. -- Grexx 12:01, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Bat Mouse

This page says the Bat Mouse prefers Super|brie+, but the Bat Mouse page says it has no preference. I don't know which is right, but one or the other needs correction. If it is the case that its preferences vary by location, that should be noted on the Bat Mouse page.

From the results we have so far we can be 91% confident that the Bat prefers SUPER|brie+ to Brie in the Great Gnarled Tree, but there's no evidence of any such preference in other locations -- Twentypence 12:05, 15 Jul 2009 (UTC)
