Italicizing "MouseHunt"
+
Wiki Contributions
I've been trying to do it every time I see it, and I'm a little boggled by your reasons for not doing it. I understand there are more examples of it not being italicized around the wiki, but is that really a relevant excuse for reverting italicized ones? Shouldn't technical correctness be something we're generally aiming for? Revengeance 08:58, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

*I think there needs to be a balance between technical correctness, consistency, and maintainability. If you really think that you can italicize every occurrence on the wiki AND convince all future editors to do the same, go for it. I'm all for correctness in most cases, but in a situation such as this where it will be virtually impossible to keep up with and where the result will be a mishmash of italics and standard text, I think common sense wins out. Not a single player who comes here looking for info is going to be confused or offended by seeing MouseHunt without italics, but I know without a hint of doubt how it will be perceived when they see it varying from page to page and even paragraph to paragraph. If you're going to do it, it simply cannot be on an "every time I see it" basis -- you're going to need to commit to quickly and thoroughly scouring the wiki in one fell swoop so that everyone else's hard work doesn't get turned into an inconsistent mess AND you're going to have to commit to regularly patrolling the Recent changes page to ensure that all future edits maintain the italics. IMHO, of course.  Beyond my opinion, there's also precedence set by other game-based wikis. (Wikipedia is not included among these -- there's a big difference not only in purpose between Wikipedia and sites like this but also in sheer userbase numbers. It's a lot easier to maintain consistency on a single topic page rather than an entire site, and it's a lot easier with hundreds or thousands of editors watching that single page than with a tiny handful of editors actively working on an entire site like this.)  Here are some other game wikis I found via Google that do not italicize: Urban Dead ... Call of Duty ... EverQuest 2 ... Fable ... and so on. These are simply the first few I stumbled upon, not a hand-selected bunch, and not one of these wikis italicizes the game name beyond the main page, if thereAgain, just my insomniac opinion. --&nbsp;B.Rossow&nbsp;talkcontr 11:02, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

I have been reading the wiki ever since I started playing, but finally decided a few days ago to start helping when I saw stuff that I thought needed to be done, so a steep learning curve (two days) later I make my first page by myself with the wonderful help of the templates. This is why I love this game, and specifically this wiki, I (the uber newbie wiki editor) see the new GB House trap info and do my best to get a new page up with all the proper info in real time. Being a newb though, and having to run out the door in the middle of my edits because the freezing weather made our pipes explode, I left my page in disarray. I am very thankful, and I am sure others are as well, that you have shown so much dedication to a consistent style and format. I look forward to you correcting my many mistakes in the future. --Niehusa 03:00, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

:We're glad to have you aboard and appreciate your helpful contributions! The great thing about a wiki is that errors -- made both by newbies and seasoned editors -- can easily be corrected and adjustments made. Sorry to hear about your burst pipes! No such disasters here (knock on wood) but it's been very cold (-8°F when I got up this morning) so I can sympathize. There are lots of editors here at least as dedicated as I am, and it's truly a group effort. Again, we're happy to have you as part of the group. Welcome aboard! If you have any questions or need assistance with editing, don't hesitate to ask myself or any of the other editors who have been around for a long time. (Hate to name names at the risk of leaving people out, but off the top of my head I know Grexx, Camomiletea and M. are frequently around and willing to help.) ==Cheat Sheet==

Regarding the Mice table under Cheat Sheet, wanted to check with you if this edit converting the columns back into one row was intended? Was just working on splitting it up when I suddenly recalled having done it before and went to check the history and noticed your edit on it. Curious about the rationale behind it, since the original idea was to make it easier to adjust for changes to mice locations. -- Grexx 19:22, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

::I'm of the opposite opinion and found the seemingly randomly broken-up rows to be confusing and extremely hard to edit. One row just makes good sense to me, but whatever. If having it split up makes it somehow easier for the majority to deal with, so be itA note describing exactly how it's split up would be greatly appreciated, however, as I could see no rhyme or reason to it and struggled greatly to make even simple changes. Counting across makes sense to me and should be easier for future editors, but again, whatever, :-) --<span style="border:2px ridge #aaf;background-color:#fff;padding:1px 8px;font:normal 10px Verdana,sans-serif;margin-left:-8px;"><span style="color:#358;">B.Rossow</span> · <span style="color:#35d;">talk</span></span> 20:18, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

:::Ah ok, they were actually split along regional lines as described under the talk page. It actually cuts down on the counting needed whenever a new location or mouse location is added, so rather than counting from the first column you can start at the exact region. I'll move the instructions to the top of the page and include in a quick note within the article itself so it's easier to follow :) -- Grexx 05:37, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

You reverted my move to the new prize mice category for the itunes mice, with reason it isnt an event mice and always available.

So are all the mice in this category (leprechaun, treasurer, snooty, high roller, mobster). They are all always available (not just events) but still have the tag "event". What is the point of having two identical categories but named different? Melky
 +

:Because during the short time it was available years ago, it wasn't a special event mouse. The wiki is about providing accurate information, not making stuff up and revising history to just to reduce the number of categories.

Is this some kind of joke? being a control freak is not in my interests unlike geting the point across. you on the other hand feel you must have your own words on this and nothing else. so I will continue to edit pages as I please. --Madrocker

*You'll edit how the site owners decide you'll edit. Removing blocks of legitimate info from pages without discussion and continuing to do so after you've been asked to stop is vandalism. I'd strongly suggest you reconsider your attacks on the Mole Mouse page. --&nbsp;B.Rossow&nbsp;talkcontr 16:50, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

**Do you own this site then??

***If I owned this site, you'd already be banned for your repeated vandalism.  I'm one of several diligent editors who patrol the site and make improvements as needed.  The page you keep attacking was developed through discussion and consensus.  Your repeated removal of information that explains the hunting strategy is vandalism.  Period.  And on a related note, if you can't even appropriately add a comment to a Talk page, you have absolutely no business making changes to live wiki pages.  Sign your posts, indent your comments, and use the edit summary box. --&nbsp;B.Rossow&nbsp;talkcontr 16:57, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

****Exactly now go away. I remember whenn I first edited that page and i failed to mention anything about why you used White cheddar, so I added why, then you decided plagurise it and put it in your own words, now whos the vandal? you I think

*****LOL! All talk of "plagurism" (spreading the plague?) aside, your original explanation was poorly worded to the point of being incomprehensible: "Due to the overwhelming amount of White, Grey and Brown mice in the area. White Cheddar will not attract White, Grey and Brown mice." I cleaned it up with a real explanation of the theory. I'm done discussing this with you. --&nbsp;B.Rossow&nbsp;talkcontr 17:08, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Have something to say?

If you have something to say, please click here (or use the [+] tab at the top of the page between "edit" and "history") to add a new section in order to keep the page more organized (unless, of course, you're commenting on a topic already being discussed). Please also remember to sign your post by using the signature button at the top of the editing box (it's the second button from the right, between the red "no" circle and the horizontal line) or by typing --~~~~ at the end of your entry. Thanks!
