Mice Images

It seems like the developers have lowered the resolution of the mice images from .png to .jpg, but I'd like someone else to confirm that just in case. Once that is confirmed, we'll need to decide if we want to switch all current .png images over the the lower resolution .jpg format. -- Grexx 16:27, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes. I noticed it a while back that the mice images used to be in PNG, but now if you download them they are JPG. In my opinion, we should keep the best resolution available, so that if we have PNGs, keep them, but for any new mice we have to go with JPG. BTW, calling the issue "low resolution" is somewhat misleading. I thought it was referring to the actual size of the picture at first. -- Camomiletea 05:16, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
Well lower resolution does refer to a lower quality image (file size is smaller), and not to the image dimensions. The dimension is correct in most cases. I'm thinking what else to name it. It isn't exactly low quality, because I had to zoom in many times before the difference in quality became obvious, so I can see why the developers opted for the .jpg instead. I'll rename wrong size to wrong dimension to make it clearer, and I'll rename low res to '.jpg' and the best resolution will get a '.png' remark so we can see at a glance. -- Grexx 07:25, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
If you'd like to, you can tack-on the extensions to all the images that don't have them. It won't make a difference for where I'm hosting those; it's just by default they aren't included, I guess to keep the URLs short. -- Camomiletea 17:20, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Traps standardization

Standardization of Trap images has previously been discussed at Talk:Traps#High_resolution_images. At the time, Revengeance proposed that

  • images should not contain any cheese,
  • weapons should be paired with Wooden base, and
  • bases should be paired with Tacky Glue Trap.

This was before the HitGrab Horsey was introduced though. Now it would be better to have the bases paired with Horsey and crop the image to remove the Horsey. -- Camomiletea 02:48, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Oh, and just one more thing I wanted to bring up... I noticed that if you use Rumble cheese with Ambush trap, the setup up looks different than if you use a different cheese with Ambush or different trap with Rumble. The Rumble and the Master's Seal in the Ambush trap create a sparkle together that you don't see otherwise [1]. I wonder if in this special case we can make an exception and make both the standardized image (with no bait), and the one with Rumble... -- Camomiletea 02:57, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
I think it may be worth bringing this back to attention as many of the newer weapon images deviate from these guidelines. Removing cheese is easier now, and wooden base would be nice so that focus remains on the weapons themselves instead of the various bases. Also, are high resolution images no longer possible in v3? --Hyperchao 11:34, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
I haven't found a way to get the high-res images of the traps. The largest resolution I got was from saving to the Facebook album.
The other benefit of using a wooden base is the fact it's not limited edition, so that if a limited edition sign is in the picture, we know it's the weapon, and not the base. Whereas it's not as clear if someone has Polar or Magma base equipped or one of the other limited-edition bases.
Regarding my earlier comment on the Rumble - I was wrong. The sparkle is there, it's just hard to see with some of the traps. -- camomiletea 15:50, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
I took your advice and saved my weapon/bases into a Facebook album. I also found that Mystic Pawn Pincher does not contact the base, much like the Horseys, but does not leave a shadow. I suggest we use this as the new standard as well. I included my bases as such. I am missing older weapons and Spellbook but will add as I get new stuff. If someone else would like to save/crop/upload/update from this source that'd be great. I'm not sure how I feel about replacing pre-v3 images with these if they are lower resolution, though.
