Below are the answers to some questions commonly asked by new hunters. For an even larger wealth of knowledge, visit the MouseHunt Wiki. MouseHunt is a passive game that is meant as something fun to check every 15 minutes while surfing the web, browsing profiles or doing some work. MouseHunt is not a ’sit and watch‘ type of game, but rather a ’come back and check your progress later‘ game. The game works just like a real life trap: Set up your trap, bait your trap, check back later! How do I catch mice?

You will be able to "Sound the Hunter’s Horn" every 15 minutes to start a hunt for mice by clicking the image of the horn when it appears at the top of the page. In addition to the horn, there is also a chance a mouse will randomly come by your trap at anytime.

Your odds of catching a mouse depend on your trap setup. Your cheese is used to attract a mouse to your trap. Once a mouse has been attracted, the power of your trap determines the likelihood of catching that mouse. Traps with higher power are more likely to catch mice.

Keep a close eye on your Hunter’s Journal located on the Camp page to see activity surrounding your trap. What cheese should I use?

When first starting out it is important to balance the cost of your cheese with how much gold you make by catching mice. Using expensive brie cheese to catch puny mice worth little gold is a bad strategy. Try starting with cheddar or marble and working your way up once you have upgraded your trap and become a more powerful hunter.

You purchase cheese from the Cheese Shoppe, accessible under the "shops" section of the navigation. How do I upgrade my trap?

Once you have earned enough gold you will be able to purchase new weapons and bases from the Trapsmith, accessible under the "shops" section of the navigation. Read the help tab within the Trapsmith to learn a little more about the varying statistics of each trap component. Focus on increasing your trap power! Should I travel?

The main factor that affects what type of mice you are hunting is your location. Reading the descriptions of the various hunting locations will give clues about what type of mice you can expect to encounter there. Pay close attention to the cost of traveling to each location. How long does it take to advance from Novice, Apprentice, etc.?

There is no set number of points or catches required for each hunter’s title. Instead you move your progress bar by catching mice worth a lot of points in streaks. Practically every action you take moves your progress bar a little, but sounding the horn frequently will allow you to go on hunting streaks moving the bar even quicker! What is SUPER|brie+?

This magical cheese is very special indeed! It offers a 99% chance to attract a variety of mice in the game. With such a strong attraction rate it means no missed opportunities. Just think, your last failure to attract could have been you catching the rare Black Widow mouse or even rarer prize mice!

Mice will also never steal more than one piece of SUPER|brie+ at a time from your trap, while other cheese can be stolen in multiple amounts costing you gold. I have so many other questions!

MouseHunt is a popular Facebook application in which players, referred to as hunters, catch mice with a variety of traps and cheeses in order to earn experience points and virtual gold through passive gameplay. From time to time the developers add new locations and mice as well as sponsor thousands of dollars for periodic giveaways and tournaments. MouseHunt was developed by HitGrab, Inc. and released to a small group for beta testing in early 2008. On 7 March 2008, MouseHunt was officially released to the general public. Just nine months later, MouseHunt earned its creators a $250,000 development grant from Facebook and the game continues to grow in popularity.

This wiki exists to inform and to educate the community of MouseHunters and those who have an interest in the MouseHunt world and its intricacies.
