The higher the total luck value of a trap, the better the odds. Dev Dave said around the 14 minute mark in a video (13 March 2009) that luck is nonlinear, so the more luck you have, the more effective it becomes. Hence 8 luck is more than twice as good as 4 luck. Moreover, he said it is more effective against a stronger mouse than against a weaker mouse, so 4 luck against a stronger mouse has more benefit than 4 luck against a weaker mouse. Luck works almost like a separate roll (see Hunting Sequence), so that regardless of a trap's power type, it can catch a mouse on pure luck.

Because power works much more often than luck does, hunters should generally not neglect significant differences in power in favor of boosting luck. However, with the Acolyte Mouse, which is presently the strongest mouse in the game, there is no trap that matches its power type, so luck is virtually the only weapon a hunter has available. Hence, if the hunter is trying to specifically catch Acolyte, the hunter should use the luckiest trap setup available, but must also be prepared for a lot of misses on the Forgotten Mice that also dwell in the Acolyte Realm.

Luck scales nonlinearly, meaning that it is more effective as the amount of luck increases. For example, 8 luck is more than twice as effective as 4 luck.

The three weapons with the highest luck are the limited edition (Chrome Edition), Snow Barrage, and PartyBot, with 30, 28, and 25 Luck respectively. The weapon with the highest luck that is not limited edition and currently available to players is the Arcane Capturing Rod Of Never Yielding Mystery, with 18 Luck.

Changes in catch rate due to luck are not reflected in the trap effectiveness meter.

The bases with the highest luck are the Dehydration Base and limited edition Polar Base, both with 4 luck. Thus the highest possible luck value in-game is 34 Luck, pairing the DeathBot Chrome with one of the two bases.

Luck is a trap stat that gives hunters a chance of catching a mouse even if it would have normally gotten away. Aside from power, a trap's luck rating also provides a chance to catch a mouse purely from luck. Luck does not affect the attraction of mice.

Luck scales nonlinearly, meaning that it is more effective as the amount of luck increases. For example, 8 luck is more than twice as effective as 4 luck.

Changes in catch rate due to luck are not reflected in the trap effectiveness meter.

Increasing Luck

Donating will provide a hunter with a Lucky Golden Shield, granting +7 luck, regardless of location or trap equipped.

Various Events have offered increased luck.
