Calamity Carl's Cozy Cruise (2013)

All aboard the S. S. Snugglesworth! Carl's signature cozy cruiseline casts off from the Harbor and tours all around Gnawnia. Enjoy the buffet any hour of the day, although you'll have to be quick to grab any cheese. It seems to disappear as fast as we can put it out!

Description and Requirements

The Calamity Carl's Cozy Cruise is an event location introduced during the Year of the Snake Festival (2013) requiring a minimum rank of Recruit to enter. Mice are unable to steal gold or points, but may steal multiple pieces of cheese if not caught. The cruise ship is run by Calamity Carl.

The area includes a Heads-up Display that shows which area the cruise is visiting, how many Cruise Bux a hunter has earned. It included advice on which charms to arm:

Oh no! The cruise ship is swarmed by water snakes! Use Firecracker, Nitropop or Snakebite Charms to scare them away! The bigger the firework, the faster you'll cruise, and the more rewards you'll earn!

During the cruise, each mouse caught lets the cruise ship progress according to which charm the hunter had armed:

If a hunter has fewer remaining km to reach the end of the cruise than what the current charm would advance, they are applied to the next cruise cycle (that is, using Horsepower Charm at 1199 km will move the hunter to 24 km).

The cruise is divided into zones, each lasting 150 km, and the mice in that zone are determined by what Location the ship is sailing near. There are 8 zones (1200 km). Each zone has a particular Collectible Souvenirs available for collection. After completing each all but the last zone, a message is left in the Hunter's Journal:

To celebrate reaching a new stop on the cruise, Carl has handed out XX Cruise Bux to spend in the ship's Shops! I'm sure you'll get even more at the next stop!

At the completion of the last section, the message changes:

Congratulations, you've completed a full cruise! Carl has provided you with 300 Cruise Bux to spend in the ship's Shops. There's another cruise departing shortly - now would be a great time to take another trip and rack up even more Cruise Bux!

The first time through a complete cruise in 2013 Year of the Snake Festival, this additional message is left in the Hunter's Journal:

In order to celebrate your inaugural cruise, Carl has rewarded you with a fancy Captain's Hat which grants you full access to the ship's Shops!

At the end of the event on 25 February 2013, hunters in the area were moved to the Docked Cruise Ship, where the shops remained open for spending remaining Cruise Bux, but where the selection of mice was reduced and no more event loot was available. The shops on the Docked Cruise Ship closed on 4 March 2013, with stragglers moved to the Meadow at that time.

Every mouse in this area has a chance of dropping Cruise Bux, although some mice are more likely to drop it than others, and some mice drop it in higher quantity than others. Also, all mice in the area have a chance of dropping the Souvenirs appropriate to the zones where the mouse can be attracted. To make the table more compact, this information has been omitted from the Loot column.

Hunting Strategy

Each zone of the cruise provides a different set of mice. There are several zones where there are mice with non-overlapping weakness; hunters must choose whether to arm a Tactical (or Physical) trap to catch the Dumpling Chef and Student mice, or whether to arm Hydro (Iceberg), Arcane (Acolyte Realm), Shadow (Tribal Isles), or Law (Daredevil Canyon) to catch Chipper, Polar Bear, Sorcerer, Gorgon, Swarm of Pygmy Mice, Saloon Gal, or Shopkeeper. Fortunately, all of the firework charms that advance 3 or more km per hunt are consumed only upon successful catch, so attracting the wrong mouse for the current trap power does not waste the effort spent in collecting charms for accelerated cruising.

Cruise Bux can be earned as random loot drops, but the fastest way to gain them is by progressing through zones. Hunters aiming to purchase as much as possible from the shops may want to focus on using firework charms to make it through the cruise multiple times. Conversely, hunters desiring to collect Souvenirs or Miniatures without spending Cruise Bux are advised to use lower-powered charms until the collectible is obtained as loot, since speeding through a zone in 6 hunts with Horsepower Charms reduces the chance of getting loot in that zone. Depending on what traps a hunter has and what mice the hunter is trying to collect, it may pay to go fast in some zones and slow in others.

The only way to attract a Calligraphy mouse is to arm SUPER|brie+, no matter what charm is in use. Similarly, the only way to attract the Totally Not Bitter mouse is to arm a Valentine Charm, which only advances 1km per catch. The only way to attract Extreme Everysports, Hurdle, Lovely Sports, Trampoline, and Winter Games mice is to arm Runny cheese; but using this cheese at the same time as a firework charm reduces the encounter of the sports mice, so it may pay to go slower to maximize the catch ratio of these mice.

Welcome to the cruise, hunter! Have you visited the buffet table yet? The cheese spread is incredible!

Which probably explains the terrible problem we're having with mice, actually. Hm.

Worse still, the entire boat has been surrounded and slowed by water snakes, attracted to all the mice! Thankfully, this is one of those kinds of problems that provides its own solution.

You see, what with it being the Lunar New Year, many of the mice have brought various fireworks with them, and if you can capture and use these fireworks as charms on your trap, the loud noise should scare off the snakes!

The bigger the firework, the louder the noise, the longer the snakes should be scared away for, and the faster the boat can go!

I'm sure Calamity Carl will be thankful for your help, and will likely reward you with Cruise Bux, so you can buy necessities and frivolities in the ship's shoppe!
