About Me
What I Am Up To
- Thinking about base articles - need to establish standard so they can be made standard.
- Should general description highlight if standard, event, or limited edition base?
- Links
- Should the references to Power Bonus and Attraction bonus be links - since they are already covered by the box on the right side and the rule of thumb is to just have links to the first reference.
- Should there be a link back to bases - easy to navigate with category on bottom of page
- Should reference similar bases - in the articles on LE bases - okay to reference standard bases
- In the articles on standard bases - remove reference to LE bases
- Just finished Trap Setup Options for all levels. No plans to do Ronza area as I don't think people really hunt there and just go there to buy limited edition stuff. Town of Digby needs updates for new mice.
- Guidelines for Trap Setup options
- Should be level appropriate - do not include traps or bases that are not available to the hunter
- This means excluding limited edition bases like the polar base and weapons like the PartyBot.
- The Trap Setups pages are not a value judgement on if setups are worth it. Few recommend buying the DDB or BG - even though they can work well at certain locations.
- Rankings are determined by the MouseHunt Catch Rate Estimates based on minimum level to access the location, and an inactive gold shield.
- Crafting Items
- Crafting Prices

Commonly Asked Questions
Members of the MouseHunt community ask the same questions over and over as people go through the different stages of the game. While the developers are updating the game with new traps and locations that impact game play and balance, the purpose of this page is to share the collective wisdom of what has been learned.
As a Novice I wonder
- How do I get started?
- Read the Wiki article on Starting out
- Help is also available in the user forums
- What do all of those abbreviations I am seeing in Forum mean?
- Which trap is better the Tacky Glue Trap or the High Tension Spring?
- The Tacky Glue Trap is the better choice here because the much higher attraction rate more than makes up for the slightly lower power and freshness. See the Trap Setup Options for the Town of Gnawnia and Trap Setup Options for the Meadow.
- What is the best setup for upgrading my trap from the wooden base to the wooden base with target?
- The Wooden Base with Target will cost you 1225 gold and requires 650 points. You want the combination of bait and location that will allow you to achieve these goals in the fewest number of hunts.
- Save 25 gold for travel - buy as much Cheddar cheese as you can afford and hunt in the Meadow
- Should I hunt in the Meadow or in the Town of Gnawnia?
- Once you have the Wooden base with Target you will earn more in the Town of Gnawnia.
- Should I skip the 500 Pound Spiked Crusher?
- Yes, if your goal is to upgrade to the Mouse Trebuchet with the fewest hunts. The difference is only a few hunts and you will miss out on that new trap smell. Do you consider MouseHunt a race to be won - or a place to explore?
- Stick with the Tacky Glue Trap with Wooden Base with Target and Cheddar cheese since this will return a better profit than the 500 Pound Spiked Crusher.
- Hunt in the Meadow if you golden shield is inactive
- Hunt in the Town of Gnawnia if your golden shield is active
- If using High Tension Spring with Wooden Base with Target and Cheddar cheese, always hunt in the Town of Gnawnia.
- Stick with the Tacky Glue Trap with Wooden Base with Target and Cheddar cheese since this will return a better profit than the 500 Pound Spiked Crusher.
- Yes, if your goal is to upgrade to the Mouse Trebuchet with the fewest hunts. The difference is only a few hunts and you will miss out on that new trap smell. Do you consider MouseHunt a race to be won - or a place to explore?
- Should I skip the Stone Base?
- This is up to the Hunter's preference. The Wooden Base with Target base provides better attraction and the Explosive Base more power with the traps that hunters use early in the game. The Stone Base will make it less likely for your cheese to go stale. Skip the Stone Base and save your gold for the explosive base.
As a Apprentice I wonder
- Should I hunt in the Town of Gnawnia or the Harbour?
- Once you have at least the Mouse Trebuchet or Mouse Rocketine, you should move to Harbour.
- What cheese should I use in the Harbour?
- If you have Mouse Trebuchet, use Swiss cheese or White Cheddar. If you have the Mouse Rocketine, use Marble cheese. Use Swiss cheese with the Swiss Army Mouse Trap.
- See Trap Setup Options for the Harbour
- What trap should I use in the Harbour?
- At least a Mouse Trebuchet or Mouse Rocketine.
- See Trap Setup Options for the Harbour
- Should I skip the Swiss Army Mouse Trap and go directly to the NVMRC Forcefield Trap or Mouse DeathBot?
- The Swiss Army Trap provides a quick return on investment, so you will be able to afford the advanced traps faster if you purchase the Swiss Army Mouse Trap.
- Forcefield Trap or Mouse DeathBot?
- The additional luck of the NVMRC Forcefield Trap makes it a better choice over the more powerful Mouse DeathBot. However the difference between the two weapons is small, and the Mouse DeathBot can be upgraded to the luckier and more powerful PartyBot with crafting items that are not always available.
- See NVMRC Forcefield Trap or Mouse DeathBot?
- Is getting the Forcefield Trap or DeathBot worth it?
- While many recommend skipping to save gold, as a Apprentice you have plenty of time to get a return on your investment. It will also help you get potions in the lab in the future. So Yes it is worth it.
As a Journeyman I wonder
- Should I hunt in the Mountain or the Calm Clearing
- You will earn more gold in the Calm Clearing, but the Mountains will open up more areas in the game.
- Is the Mountain or the Calm Clearing better for collecting Splintered Wood?
- More research is needed - recommendation is to use Brie Cheese to increase you attraction of the mice that drop wood. Hunters are more likely to encounter the Dwarf Mouse which drops Splintered Wood in the Mountains than the Treant Mouse which drops Splintered Wood in the Calm Clearing. It is not know if the Treant Mouse is more likely to drop Splintered Wood than the Dwarf Mouse once it is caught.
- Treant in Calm Clearing is dropping multiple pieces.
- Should I buy the NVMRC Forcefield Trap?
- If you have the money before 50% journeyman, purchase the NVMRC Forcefield trap.
- Should I risk crafting the Dehydration Base?
- If you feel like you could afford the loss of the gold required and can regain the splintered wood before Master, go ahead. But Explosive Base still does well in place of Dehydration Base.
- Which is better - the Explosive Base or the Dehydration Base?
- The answer is it depends on the trap you are pairing it with, the location that you are hunting in, and your hunting goals. The dehydration base has higher luck so it is better when paired with high luck traps or used in locations where you are okay with catching fewer mice but want higher loot drops.
As a Master I wonder
- Should I hunt in the Laboratory or the Great Gnarled Tree?
- Currently, there is no special trap designed for the Lagoon so Gnarled Cheese Curd Potions collected will be useless until much stronger traps are bought or crafted. The Laboratory on the other hand drops Radioactive Blue Cheese Curd Potions which can be used in the Mousoleum, which has traps that could work effectively in it.
- Where is the better place to earn gold - the Town of Digby or the Mousoleum?
- The lower cost of Swiss cheese that works well at earning gold in the Town of Digby compared to the cost of Radioactive Blue cheese, but Radioactive Blue cheese has a much higher attraction as well as the mice in the Mousoleum give a much higher reward. You will make more gold in Mousoleum, but you will have a lot of misses and red boxes.
- Is the Venus Mouse Trap worth it?
- The Venus Mouse Trap is a lot cheaper than Zugzwang's Last Move, but in the long run, Zugzwang's Last Move has a much higher catch rate and will be very worth the extra gold required. However the Venus Mouse Trap can be upgraded to a more powerful tactical trap - so is preferred over Zugzwang's Last Move.
- Should I get the map to the next area from the Lycan or the Mole?
- You are more likely to catch the Mole Mouse in the Town of Digby using the NVMRC Forcefield Trap trap than the Lycan mouse in the Mousoleum with the Sinister Portal. But you will need to spend time in the Mousoleum to get gold and points anyways. If you are specifically looking for the map piece, go after the Mole Mouse in the Town of Digby, otherwise, you will most likely get the map from hunting in the Mousoleum before you reach Grandmaster.
- What is the best setup for collecting RB potions?
- What is the best setup for collecting Gnarled Cheese Potions?
- While most of the mice that drop Gnarled Cheese Potions are physical mice, I recommend using the 2010 Blastoff trap/Magma/Brie over Chrome Drillbot/Magma/Brie since you will be earning 200 gold per hunt more - at a lost of 1 potion per 400 hunts.
- Should I use Brie or SuperBrie to make Gnarled cheese?
- Brie - Google Spreadsheet
- What is the best setup for Wicked Gnarled Cheese Potions?
- 2010 Blastoff Trap on Candy Cane Base - the Gnarled Potions are so hard to come by you want to keep you gnarled cheese fresh - and the chemist mouse is not hard to catch.
As a Grandmaster I wonder
- Where is the best place for points?
- The best location for earning points is in the Training Grounds with Brie (need confirmation)
- Where is the best place for gold?
- The best location for earning gold is in the Mousoleum with Radioactive Blue
- Is it worth it to risk crafting the Ambush Trap
- Is Maki cheese worth it?
- If you are willing to spend teh SUPER Brie+ needed to craft this cheese, you will get tokens faster.
- What is the best setup for collecting Gnarled potions at the Great Gnarled Tree?
- Excluding limited edition traps and based the Digby DrillBot with Explosive Base and Brie cheese should have a good return on potions. Giant Speakers with Magna Base and Brie cheese is best overall.
- Should I buy the Venus Mouse Trap or Zugzwang's Last Move
- While the Zugzwang's Last Move is a better tactical trap than the Venus Mouse Trap, the Venus mouse trap has several advantages. First it is less expensive. Second it can be upgraded to the Mutated Venus Mouse Trap which in turn can be upgrade to the most powerful tactical trap - the Horrific Venus Mouse Trap.
- What is the best way to catch the Assassin mouse?
- The Giant Speakers / Wooden Base with Target / Brie Cheese in the Training grounds. Without limited edition traps the Mutated Venus Mouse Trap / Wooden Base with Target / Brie cheese in the Training grounds is best.
- What is the best way to get the Ambush Trap Blueprints?
- Hunt for the Hapless Mouse in the Pinnacle Chamber.
- Where is the best place to hunt for the Worker mouse?
- The Training Grounds is better than the Dojo. Remember to user Super Brie cheese to attract this elusive mouse.
As a Legendary I wonder
- Should I look for Ambush Trap Blueprints in the Training Grounds or the Pinnacle Chamber.
- Hunting with Brie cheese you are more likely to encounter the Hapless Mouse which drops the blueprints in the Pinnacle Chamber than the Assassin Mouse which drops the blueprints in the Training Grounds.
- Should I craft Obelisk of Incineration or stick with Obelisk of Slumber?
- The Obelisk of Incineration's has higher power and 1 more luck than Obelisk of Slumber, but it has an extremely stale effect, while Obelisk of Slumber has higher attraction as well as an extremely fresh effect. Since the two traps have similar performance, it will take a hunter longer to get their return on investment to earn back the cost of crafting the Obelisk of Incineration which includes 45,000 gold plus the time to collect rare loot such as coal, and scrap metal. Hunters may want to save up for crafting the Arcane Capturing Rod Of Never Yielding Mystery instead.
- Is Ancient cheese worth it in the Catacombs
- The extra expense of Ancient cheese is not worth it. Stick with Radioactive Blue.
- Where is the best location to hunt for Scrap Metal?
- Since Radioactive Blue cheese is less expensive than Ancient cheese, hunters will find hunting in Catacombs with Radioactive Blue is the most efficient way. If cost is no object hunters with the Keeper's Candle using Ancient cheese are more likely to encounter the Scavenger Mouse which drops Scrap Metal cheese in the Forbidden Grove than hunters using Radioactive Blue cheese in the Catacombs.
- What is the best setup for collecting Radioactive Blue potions?
- Hitgrab Rockin’ Horse + Magma Base (42 Luck) + Brie for Legendary and above. Use Swiss cheese if below legendary.
- What is the best way to catch the Hydra Mouse?
- The best combination is the Kraken Chaos / Magma Base / Gnarled Cheese. Excluding limited edition traps - Digby DrillBot / Explosive Base / Gnalred Cheese will catch the most Hydra mice - but you may want to go with Digny DirllBot / Dehydration Base / Gnaled Cheese for the extra luck in getting the Ship Blueprints.
- Is it better to hunt for the Ship Blueprints or to buy them?
- While it may be faster to buy the Ship Blueprints - you would end up missing the enjoyment of hunting in the Lagoon. Don't be in such a hurry - hunt for the Ship Blueprints.
- What is the best setup for Nerg Plains?
- Your best tactical trap and luckiest base. Including the limited edition traps this would be the 2010 Blastoff with Magma Base and Gouda Cheese. Excluding limited edition traps your best bet would be the Horrific Venus Mouse Trap with Tribal (or Aqua if you can't afford the Tribal base) and Gouda cheese.
- What is the best setup for Elub Shore?
- Your best hydro trap and luckiest base. Including the limited edition traps this would be the Kraken with Magma Base and Gouda Cheese.
- What is the best setup for Derr Dunes?
- Your best physical trap and luckiest base. Including the limited edition traps this would be the Chrome Drillbot with Magma Base. Use Brie cheese for profit, and Gouda for Seeds and Points. See Mousehunt Analytics
As a Hero I wonder
As a Knight I wonder
As a Lord/Lady I wonder
At any level I wonder
- How am I doing compared to everybody else or compared to my friends.
- Rankings are available on the Scoreboard
- Who is Ronza, why do I care, and when is she coming back?
I wonder how to catch particular mice
- Abominable Snow Mouse in the Mountain
- Black Widow Mouse
- Attracted to both Brie and Super Brie
- Cyclops Mouse in Calm Clearing
- Dwarf Mouse in the Mountain
- Fairy Mouse in the Great Gnarled Tree
- Glitchpaw Mouse
- The Glitchpaw Mouse is found in all locations but Meditation Room and Pinnacle Chamber. For best chance of catching a Glitchpaw, equip your strongest trap with Target and Swiss or Brie. The Glitchpaw is easy to catch so maximizing attraction is important.
- Granite Mouse in the Harbour
- Harpy Mouse in Lagoon
- Lycan Mouse in Mousoleum
- See Trap Setup Options for the Mousoleum
- Is Moon Cheese worth it?
- Moon Cheese should only be used with very strong trap such as Bottomless Grave as Lycan Mice will pillage a lot from weaker traps.
- The Mole Mouse
- See Trap Setup Options for the Meadow
- Your most powerful trap with Explosive Base and Swiss cheese. White Cheddar will earn gold well in the meadow, but the added attraction of Swiss cheese will reduce the number of hunts needed to catch the shy Mole Mouse. While you will on average lose gold each hunt, the Mole mouse in the Meadow seems to have a prefrence for Brie Cheese. Note that it's cousins in the Town of Digby only have the normal Brie attraction bonus. Note that you are 4 to 5 times more likely to catch the Mole mouse in the Town of Digby than in the Meadow.
- Master and above See Trap Setup Options for the Town of Digby
- Your most powerful trap with Dehydration Base and Brie cheese. While you would be losing money using Brie cheese in the meadow, the mice are worth more in the Town of Digby so you can afford the added attraction. The Dehydration Base will provide additional luck.
- See Trap Setup Options for the Meadow
- Monster Mouse in the Laboratory
- Ninja Mouse in the Mountain
- Pirate Mouse
- Treant Mouse
- Troll
- Zombie Mouse
