Overview
The PAGENAME is a location in the Sandtail Desert region requiring a minimum rank of Baron/Baroness, the Living Garden Key, and capturing Carmine the Apothecary in the Living Garden to enter. The Living Garden Key is obtained from the Cartographer at the Muridae Market.
+
The Fungal Cavern is a location in the Hollow Heights region requiring a minimum rank of Duke or Duchess to enter. It also requires the purchase of the Fungal Cavern Map Piece from the Muridae Market Cartographer.

Mice in the Sand Crypts are weak only to Shadow weapons.
+
Mice in the Fungal Cavern require a variety of crafted cheeses to attract.  Hydro and Forgotten weapons are required to attract the mice found here.

Graveblossom Camembert is required for attracting all mice in the Sand CryptsHunters must use Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms and play the King Grub Minigame to weaken the King Grub and King Scarab mice. Once weakend, Hunters can arm a Grub Scent Charm to attract the King Grub Mouse or a Shattering Charm to attract the King Scarab MouseCatching either will reset the King Grub Minigame.

The Heads-up Display for the area shows an image of one of five areas of the cave, according to the hunter's current bait, with a title over the image; at the bottom is a hint about the use of that baitNote that in the Glittering Grotto and Flowstone Falls, there is a rare chance of attracting mice from other subgroups; the table only lists the primary subgroup associated with the areaAn additional hint is displayed if the user arms the wrong Power Type, either "Only Hydro and Forgotten power types are effective here!" or "Only Forgotten power type works at this depth!"

Hunters must collect Lunaria Petals to use in purchasing Lunaria Camembert.  Lunaria Camembert is required for attracting Twisted Carmine, and with a Shattering Charm armed, Shattered Carmine in the Twisted Garden.

Accessing the Twisted World
+
  ! Area
The Twisted World locations of Twisted Garden, Cursed City, and Sand Crypts can only be accessed by capturing Carmine the Apothecary with Duskshade Camembert in the Living Garden. Capturing Carmine the Apothecary will move the Hunter to the Twisted Garden and the following message is displayed:
+
  ! Cheese

+
  ! Main Mouse Subgroup
On catching Carmine the Apothecary, a light flashes and a spell she had prepared in advance erupts! Nightmarish tendrils of dark smoke burst from the ground around me, and before I knew it the world had changed before my very eyes into a wild and twisted version of itself.<br/>I can feel this world itself attempting to reject me and send me back, but I must stay as long as I am able to find out what Carmine is doing in this hidden, dark place.
+
  ! Power<br/>Type

+
  ! Common Loot
Hunting with any cheese other than Graveblossom Camembert in the Sand Crypts will cause Hunters to be moved to the Sand Dunes and the following message will be displayed:
+
  ! Rare Loot

+
  ! Hint
Almost as if an illusion suddenly shattered, the world around me snaps back to normal. Using X Cheese has brought me back to the normal world.<br/>

Sand Crypts HUD
Hunters can access and track the following using the Heads-Up Display:

*The King Grub Minigame

*Garden Petals and Herbs

*Garden Essences

*The Book of Living Recipes

King Grub Minigame
To play this minigame, Hunters need to arm Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms and hunt normally. As the player catches mice, the salt meter will increase weakening the King Grub Mouse and King Scarab Mouse. The meter is capped at a maximum of 50 salt.<br/>

Grub Salt Charms can be purchased for 200 gold and 1 Ber Essence from the Sand Crypts Charm Shoppe.<br/>

Super Salt Charms can be crafted or found in Living Garden Treasure Chests.<br/>

Once salt has been collected, Hunters can use Grub Scent Charms to attract the King Grub Mouse. <br/>

A minimum of 18 salt collected with Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms is generally recommended when targeting this mouse.  Higher salt levels usually reduce the numbers of failures to catch. <br/>

The meter will reset after successfully catching the King Grub, with the following message in the Hunter's Journal:

:Whoa, the King Grub mouse nearly wrecked my trap! He definitely dislodged all the salt and left his ah... distinct smell about the place! I'll need to re-salt and scent my trap before attracting another one.

:I should unequip my Grub Scent Charms and save them for later.

Hunters can choose to arm a Shattering Charm instead of a Grub Scent Charm to attract a King Scarab Mouse.<br/>

A minimum of 30 salt collected with Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms is generally accepted to be necessary when targeting this mouse. However, between 40 and 50 salt collected will usually result in fewer failures to catch.<br/>

The meter will reset after successfully catching the King Scarab Mouse, leaving the following message in the Hunter's Journal:

:Success! Though it took an incredible amount of salt, patience, and luck, I was able to catch the massive and terrible King Scarab mouse! Of course, I'll have to re-salt my trap before attracting any more big game.

Sand Crypts Mice
All mice found in the Sand Crypts are part of the Sand Dunes Mice group.<br/>

All mice found here are weak only to Shadow weapons.

King Grub Mouse
Hunters wishing to capture the King Grub Mouse must use Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms as part of the King Grub Minigame to weaken it, then arm a Grub Scent Charm to attract it.<br/>

A minimum of 18 salt collected with Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms is generally recommended when targeting this mouse.

King Scarab Mouse
Hunters wishing to attract the King Scarab Mouse must use Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms as part of the King Grub Minigame to weaken it, then arm a Shattering Charm to attract it.

A minimum of 30 salt collected with Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms is generally accepted to be necessary when targeting this mouse. However, between 40 and 50 salt collected will usually result in fewer failures to catch.

On the left of the Heads-up Display are the four area-specific cheeses (Glowing Gruyere, Mineral, Gemstone, and Diamond), shown with icons, current inventory counts, and "Arm" buttons. Hovering over a cheese count gives 1 or 2 Crafting recipes necessary to craft that cheese.  On the right are the six area-specific loots used in crafting (Cavern Fungus, Nightshade, Mineral, Gemstone, Diamond, Crystal Crucible), with icons and a light that turns green when the item is common loot. Hovering over an item gives a hint about its use, as well as "Not Available", "Extremely Rare", or "Available".
Hunters should arm Graveblossom Camembert to collect Lunaria Petals from the mice found in the Sand Crypts. Hunters can then use Lunaria Petals (along with Plumepearl Herbs) to purchase Lunaria Camembert.

Hunters can then return to the Twisted Garden and arm Lunaria Camembert to capture Twisted Carmine and, with a Shattering Charm armed, Shattered Carmine.

Hunters wishing to attract the King Grub or King Scarab must play the King Grub Minigame which requires using Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms to weaken these mice.

Capturing King Grub
Collecting salt with Grub Salt Charms or Super Salt Charms in the King Grub Minigame and arming a Grub Scent Charm with Graveblossom Camembert allows Hunters to attract the King Grub.

Mice with Special Requirements
Bases
+
*Relic Hunter Mouse – This mouse visits the Fungal Cavern on an irregular basis. It does not consume cheese or charms. Hunters must have an Ancient Relic in their inventory to attract this mouse. The Ancient Relic will be taken by the Relic Hunter Mouse in exchange for a Relic Hunter Scroll Case.
*Hothouse Base - Limited Edition - Doubles the range of Garden Petals and Herbs dropped by mice in this location.

*Living Base - Doubles the range of Garden Petals and Herbs dropped by mice in this location.

Charms
* The Grub Salt Charm and Super Salt Charm increases the salt level by 1 and 2 respectively.

* The Grub Scent Charm allows the attraction of King Grub Mouse.

* The Shattering Charm allows the attraction of King Scarab Mouse.

*M400 Hunting Research Assignment -  This assignment may require collecting 1 Piece of M400 Intel from mice in the Sand Crypts and/or capture the M400.

Tournaments
+
The earth has given way to a softly lit cavern that burrows deep beneath the surface, found to be rich in minerals, gemstones, and other precious materials. It would be a great place to mine, if it weren't inhabited by some unique breeds of mice that aren't too keen on letting their precious stones go!
Sand Crypts mice are worth points during some Tournaments.

Treasure Maps
+
Closest to the surface, the Fungal Fodder mice have grown reliant upon the spongy soft fungus and moulds that grow from the moisture trapped below, similar to those that occur naturally in standard baits. Using regular cheese, and your best Hydro trap, should be enough to get started in collecting some Cavern Fungus and Nightshade plants so you can create a more palatable substitute.
Many mice in the Sand Crypts are often found on Relic Hunter Treasure Maps and Living Garden Treasure Maps.

Hunting tips by Larry
+
Using Glowing Gruyere, you should be able to attract the attention of the deeper mice and earn some Minerals for your troubles. Using these Minerals will allow you craft a more crunchy cheese.
You're going to need a lot of Graveblossom Camembert here. The mice in these crypts don't seem to like anything else! Plus, any other cheese just doesn't feel... appropriate here in this world.

There don't seem to be any grublings in these crypts, but there's definite evidence they've been here, with slime trails littering the ground. At any rate, Grubling Chow Charms won't help here.
+
Being so far from the surface, the mice hiding deeper in these caverns have evolved to be dependant on the Minerals and Gemstones for food, and are weaker against Forgotten traps instead of Hydro. Using normal conventional cheeses won't be enough to even garner a glance from some of the deeper mice. You are going to need to get creative and combine those newly acquired precious stones into some extravagantly expensive Gemstone and Diamond cheeses.

Instead, listen close and you'll hear the roar of the King Grub Mouse. He's huge, and powerful, and up to no good! Now, while catching him is definitely in your best interests, he's not going to be an easy fight!
+
Be careful at this point. I can't even imagine a mouse that eats Gemstones and Diamonds for a regular meal...

First, you'll need to liberally apply coatings of salt to your trap by purchasing and using Grub Salt Charms, then when you feel you've salted your trap enough, purchase and use some Grub Scent Charms to draw him to your trap and steal his Garden Essences.

The entrance of the cavern is the site of an underground aquifer. The arid desert air soaks up the water, causing the walls to sweat with humidity. Within this damp environment, fungus and other plant life seem to flourish, although they're quickly snatched up by the somewhat amphibious mice here.

I've collected some plant samples and am continuing to venture further into the cavern. Small, dark passages lie ahead...

Some traces of water are present, however, the cooler, drier air has made the mice much less dependent on water.

I've moved past the narrow, mineral-rich passageways and the cavern has opened up once again. Despite the dim lighting, I've spotted sparkling gemstones! A recent settling of sand near the southern edge of the desert has revealed a hidden passageway into an underground cavern.

The Fungal Cavern is the site of an underground aquifer, a damp place full of mushrooms and poisonous plants. The walls are rich with Minerals and sparkling Gemstones that reflect and scatter what little light enters the cave.

Overview

The Fungal Cavern is a location in the Hollow Heights region requiring a minimum rank of Duke or Duchess to enter. It also requires the purchase of the Fungal Cavern Map Piece from the Muridae Market Cartographer.

Mice in the Fungal Cavern require a variety of crafted cheeses to attract. Hydro and Forgotten weapons are required to attract the mice found here.

Fungal Cavern HUD

The Heads-up Display for the area shows an image of one of five areas of the cave, according to the hunter's current bait, with a title over the image; at the bottom is a hint about the use of that bait. Note that in the Glittering Grotto and Flowstone Falls, there is a rare chance of attracting mice from other subgroups; the table only lists the primary subgroup associated with the area. An additional hint is displayed if the user arms the wrong Power Type, either "Only Hydro and Forgotten power types are effective here!" or "Only Forgotten power type works at this depth!"

Hunting Tips by Larry

Watch your step!

The earth has given way to a softly lit cavern that burrows deep beneath the surface, found to be rich in minerals, gemstones, and other precious materials. It would be a great place to mine, if it weren't inhabited by some unique breeds of mice that aren't too keen on letting their precious stones go!

Using Glowing Gruyere, you should be able to attract the attention of the deeper mice and earn some Minerals for your troubles. Using these Minerals will allow you craft a more crunchy cheese.

Be careful at this point. I can't even imagine a mouse that eats Gemstones and Diamonds for a regular meal...

History and Trivia

The Fungal Cavern was introduced on 12 May 2015 in the Sandtail Desert region. On 9 September 2015, the Fungal Cavern was relocated to the Hollow Heights region with its release.

Larry's Cavern Reports

Larry the Friendly Knight explored the Fungal Cavern and reported back to the King before the area was opened to Hunters.

Larry's Cavern Report #1

The entrance of the cavern is the site of an underground aquifer. The arid desert air soaks up the water, causing the walls to sweat with humidity. Within this damp environment, fungus and other plant life seem to flourish, although they're quickly snatched up by the somewhat amphibious mice here. I've collected some plant samples and am continuing to venture further into the cavern. Small, dark passages lie ahead...

Larry's Cavern Report #2

Moving further into the cavern, the lack of light has prevented the growth of much plant life. However, these narrow passages are rich with minerals! Some traces of water are present, however, the cooler, drier air has made the mice much less dependent on water.

Larry's Cavern Report #3

I've moved past the narrow, mineral-rich passageways and the cavern has opened up once again. Despite the dim lighting, I've spotted sparkling gemstones! The great riches here would make for quite the welcoming environment, if it were not for the fact that the mice here have become increasingly aggressive!

Larry's Cavern Report #4

It's clear that these long forgotten and ancient mice are not welcoming my presence! After pressing further into the cavern I've found even greater treasures! Diamonds sparkle in the walls, illuminated by light let in by tiny cracks in the ceiling. Some crumbling walls have revealed a passage way with an eerie glow ahead.

Larry's Cavern Report #5

This will be my final report. The usual dull sounds that echo throughout the cavern have now come to a dead silence. I can't shake the feeling I'm being watched by something... I must return to Gnawnia to share my findings with the King before the ancient mice here are my undoing.
