Full of fresh air and plenty of sunshine, the Harbour seems to attract the types of mice who boast of sea salt in their veins. |
This treacherous environment only allows the toughest of mice to survive. Be warned: the Mountain is no place for the novice mouse hunter!
Description and Requirements
The Mountain is a location in the Gnawnia region requiring a minimum rank of Journeyman to enter. In the original release of MouseHunt on March 2008, it was the last location available to hunters. Mice in this location may steal points, gold, or multiple pieces of cheese if not captured.
Shops
Moustachio the Charmer's Charm Shoppe is located in the Mountain. Other shops for the Gnawnia region can be found in the Town of Gnawnia and Harbour. As such, hunters are advised to stock up on cheese before travelling here to avoid incurring unnecessary travelling costs.
Cheese Preference and Loot
Standard Cheese attracts most mice in the Mountain.
White Cheddar Cheese will reduce the mouse population by repelling the Brown, Grey, and White mice.
SUPER|brie+ will attract all mice in the Mountain.

Mice with Special Requirements
- Relic Hunter Mouse - This mouse visits the Mountain on an irregular basis and is attracted to Standard Cheese, White Cheddar, and SUPER|brie+. Hunters must have an Ancient Relic in their inventory to attract this mouse. The Ancient Relic will be taken by the Relic Hunter Mouse in exchange for a Relic Hunter Scroll Case.
- M400 - This mouse will sometimes be available in the Mountain when Hunters are actively working an M400 Hunting Research Assignment. It is attracted only to Fusion Fondue which will not attract any other mice. It drops a wide variety of loot.
Hunting Strategy
Hunters have several Trap Setup Options for the Mountain. Using a low power trap could result in a net loss due to the thieving mice. Hunting with Prospector's Charms armed in this area will increase the attraction of Diamond and Gold mice when using standard cheese as bait. When used alongside SUPER|brie+ cheese, Prospector's Charms will also increase the attraction of Silvertail mice.
Collecting enough gold to purchase either the Mouse DeathBot or NVMRC Forcefield Trap will also improve the chances of catching mice not only in the Mountain, but in most locations in the Burroughs region as well. Note, however, that the Swiss Army Mouse Trap paired together with the Stone Base or Explosive Base will do adequately there as well and will save you gold for the future Shadow traps.
Hunters will need to obtain the Burroughs Laboratory Map Piece from a Ninja mouse and achieve Master rank before becoming eligible to travel to the Burroughs Region in the Kingdom of Gnawnia.
- Hunters have reported that the first Ninja mouse encountered should hold the map, hence hunters might not want to stay at the mountain for too long as overall, the mice do not yield much gold.
As the Abominable Snow Mouse, Frozen, Frosty Snow and Pebble mouse can only be found in this location, hunters might want to stay in the location until they manage to capture one. Due to the rarity of these mice however, it would be a good idea to use traps such as the Mouse DeathBot or stronger to reduce the possibility of failing to catch one should it be attracted. It is also recommended that hunters use cheese with a high attraction rate to improve the chances of attracting one.
Cheese Usage
All standard cheese types can be used in this location. Hunters who wish to maximize their profits should use either Marble or Swiss. Alternatively, hunters can use Cheddar or White Cheddar and use a Base that has a high attraction bonus such as the Wooden Base with Target.
Hunters who wish to achieve Master rank quickly should use Brie or SUPER|brie+ cheese. These baits have better attraction rates, thus hunters should encounter more Ninja mice overall and improve their chances of getting the Map Piece.
Adventure Book
Hunters can Find the Hidden Mountain Pass by catching a Ninja Mouse in the Mountain to find a Laboratory Map Piece.
Hunting tips by Larry
Welcome, Mousehunter! You’re about to discover the stunning vistas and treacherous terrain of... The Mountain!
The Gold and Diamond mice found here are worth a handsome amount of gold and points. Extra income means that you may now be able to afford more expensive cheeses and more powerful traps. Don’t be afraid to head back to town and upgrade your trap and cheese if you have problems attracting or catching mice. You’ve earned it!
I should also warn you that a mysterious Ninja mouse has traveled to the Mountain from the North, carrying a piece of the map. Should you find this rare Ninja and acquire the map piece, it will unlock a new hunting location to the north!
